Did you just lose your melon-picking job to some illegal aliens?

Main line folly - one of the dangers of not climbing enough!

It also makes a lousy aftershave lotion. If you're going to store your gear in a shed or garage where rodents are an issue, check craigslist and garage sales for old, pickup bed toolboxes. I've picked some up for dirt cheap, and they're very rodent-proof. Even the polyethylene ones are too...

    Spiking leaners, any advice?

You need to work on your 3-beer gangsta lean by climbing banana trees during a windstorm.

    Shipping a chainsaw

I just take pics of saw I'm going to sell, then box it up and take it to shipper and ask how much to ship it to one of the big cities on the west coast (I'm in the midwest). That way I know ABOUT how much it will cost to ship it anywhere in the lower 48. When I have a buyer, I just use their...

    Wore out ORCA biner

Some forging processes require some post-forging milling to remove tabs or excess material (the automated machinery needs a way to handle/manipulate the product prior to final finishing and assembly. The point where a tab is milled off gets anodized when the carabiner does, but when the...

What the hell have you been eating, that makes you need to do that?

Is it just me, or is working from any height without a rope and operating a chainsaw a bad idea?

The same guy that tells you climbing trees is dangerous will invariably stand on an aluminum ladder that is leaning against the gutters, not tied off in any manner, with a Sears Crapsman pole saw, three feet from the power lines, wearing flip-flops and Bermuda shorts, smoking a cigarette and...

    Cleaning zigzag covered in pitch

I clean them with mineral spirits, then clean that off in warm water with dish soap. Lube with teflon spray.

    Canopy Anchors

I think "retrieve easily" is going to depend more on the tree species, number of redirects and rope angles. You're fighting the weight of the rope plus all of the friction created by the redirects.

Rose of Sharon Advice / Rain and Wind Damage?

Correct. You can prune it any time of year, but it won't flower on the new growth in spring.

    Unverified reports of Moss working

So true. I have one staring at me through the patio door right now. Just from his expression, I can tell that he is displeased with the kitchen staff.

    Tips and Tricks

Lucky guy. Your wife probably tries to tell you how the universe works. Mine is a chemist who now works in health care... she keeps telling me why I should not eat or drink whatever crap I'm indulging in at the moment. If I read the label out loud, she tells me what all those ingredients are...

Rose of Sharon Advice / Rain and Wind Damage?

Yeah, they're like viburnum, lilacs, etc. and I've cut them down a foot above the ground. Two or three years later, you'd never know they had been touched.

Willow Tree Hit By Rain / Wind...Growing Fast??

The willow trees that I have to deal with (two are my own) require annual pruning at a bare minimum. Usually biannual. They grow several feet per year even in this state. They are prone to wind damage, and yes, even a heavy rain can damage them. None of this will kill them... that usually takes...
