Today....

Went to do end-weight reduction on some long fir limbs over a house and found a left behind friction-saver up the tree! The customer I was working for wasn't sure when the tree had been worked on last, but a few years ago at a minimum. The way it was set, it looked like someone just forgot to use a retrieval ball and pulled their rope through then didn't want to go back up, or didn't bother to try at all since it was in a good climbing orientation, not like it somehow got stuck.

Plus the usual views.

Next July my family and I will be doing a 3 weekend vacation starting in
Glacier national park
Stopping in Idaho
Up to Olympus State Park and whale watching
Down to Crater lake
down to the Redwoods
Then to San Francisco
Yosemite National park
Couple nights at each about to start making reservations
Can’t wait
Beautiful part of the country

Should be an awesome trip, driving? I've done a ton of west coast road trips and love every one of them. I'd also suggest adding Death Valley to your trip if you can make the time, it's only a short distance from Yosemite and feels like a completely different world.

Have you been to Great Basin park? I’ve been reading about the bristlecone pines and would like to visit them one day

Great photos. I'll post a quote a bit later in an edit.

EDIT:
"If my soul could get away from this so-called prison, be granted all the list of attributes generally bestowed on spirits, my first ramble on spirit-wings would not be among the volcanos of the moon...I should hover about the beauty of our own good star...I should study Nature's laws in all their crossings and unions...But my first journeys would be into the inner substance of flowers..." nie Bristlecone Pines.

Sherrill MIGHT be able to sell you just the section that’s damaged.

First I tried just going to Silkys website, which hardly worked and didn't show me what I was looking for, then TreeStuff only showed replacement poles for the 3 extension version, but Sherrill has the right thing. Thanks for reminding me to check there!

Every year we get naturally seeded little spruces popping up in flower beds and in rundle rock landscaping beside walkways. Now, instead of pullin ‘em like weeds, I try and plant some of them. Here’s this year’s crop, repotted today. They’ll go to some of the folks I’ve done arb work for, especially where I’ve removed a healthy tree for a homeowner. Not much I know, but kids like this replanting idea. I must say with diligent watering this year, these guys grew like skunk in spite of all the forest fire smoke. Cheers
