But that isn't 24 hours a day. If is is only busy 4-6 hours a day (busier on weekends vs week days) then that potentially drives down the target occupancy.

Before or after the failure? From the pictures you posted (print article), I assumed the decay that was viewable was from the area where the limb broke out (apparent v crotch). The decay would have been nowhere near as apparent while the limb was attached. One would assume that there would be...

    Cribbing for loaders/trucks

Are you talking about leveling an stationary machine, or making a level "roadway" to go in and out one or multiple times? If roadway, for how long of a distance? If the ground does not somewhat re-level, I'm not sure how a roadway would help you. Side slopes are obviously tricky for...

What I was accused of was making my own work...putting a high rating on something so I could then do the work. So we said we are done doing walk throughs. Either you tell us what you want done, or if you hire an outside consultant to assess the trees. We worked in the area for almost 20 years...

I feel that is a conflict in interest (especially if doing an official report). personally. I have run into associations accusing me of that, which is part of why I no longer work for that church camp grove area. We do talk them through what the risk assessment means and that it is a billable...

I understand it, but it is still subjective as far as the ratings go. In the class, it didn't matter if you had the same ratings (no 100% correct answer there) it just mattered that you followed through the correct steps and process for the most part. All of which is why it is up the the...

I didn't take the class for a long time because it seemed subjective to me. Now that I took the class, I am gladI did and will probably keep the certification current. This is mostly because I feel I was already doing it as a certified arborist, and this just gives more backing to that. I...

Good info on the number of cars/rate. I was hoping you would give input on that. The clear cut question was mostly rhetorical. As to known tree defects seen with a level 1...that would be probably a 1/3 of the trees to some extent (v crotches, over extended, dead wood, decay, etc). My point was...

I think TRAQ and risk assessment are good, but I just don't see how they would really hold up in court because they are very subjective. In a storm even a healthy tree can fail, so there is no way to prevent all failures unless you want to clear cut roadways and properties.

I knew I should have pull my book out for a refresher, lol. Would a traffic study have to be done to determine the amount of which category it falls into (in a court case situation). Since it doesn't appear to be a highway, Id tend to put the Biltmore road in the frequent to Occasional...

Here is a interesting article I found, while looking for more information . Appeals court: Cincinnati can't be sued over Mt. Airy Forest tree branch that fell on U-Haul Kevin Grasha Cincinnati Enquirer A state appeals court has ruled that a woman who said she was injured when a large tree...

The issue is the cars are moving, so the occupancy is not constant as it is a flow in and out of the target zone. Then add to that weekend and other times when traffic may be slower or non existent. Also moving cars are not permanent non moveable targets. Most roadways are considered low targets...

But since there were cable(s) in the tree, on that limb, a closer "inspection" was kind of done by an "arborist", more so than just from the ground (level 1). I understand the cable probably wasn't installed by traq certified person, or maybe not even a certified arborist or someone with a lot a...

Stihl MSA 300 battery Saw - any Husky competitor coming (bigger than 540i)?

List of saws we carry Gas: 661c, ms 261, 201t Battery: 161t, 200c, power pole saw We don't do many stick crane removals, but do a lot of grapple saw removals. 261 is go to on felling cuts (if not huge) and stick crane removals. For the grapple saw the battery 200c is plenty. I used to have...

Stihl MSA 300 battery Saw - any Husky competitor coming (bigger than 540i)?

I like the rear handled battery saws mostly for prepping behind the chipper...instant on. This is the biggest advantage across the board with the battery saws in my opinion. Currently I have one rear handle, one climbing and the pole saw (all stihl) ...all of which get used more than the gas...

Any Advice For My First Year In Business?

I would be somewhat careful of always buying equipment in cash. I think it is good to have the money to do so, but it often takes paying off loans to increase your credit score...and to look good for banks. Especially if you eventually have to go get a big loan for a grapple saw crane ($500k)...

Any Advice For My First Year In Business?

I agree with ATH said. Be professional in everything you do on a property (doesn't mean you can't have fun), and leave a property better than you found it. Keeping your actions and attitudes professional goes a long way, and word will spread. ). Look at every job as a repeat customer, which...

How would you prune this tree

Depending on external thickness and internal limbs, I feel you did the right thing on this job. I usually say reduction should start once the tree reaches the desired size, not after. That way you can keep your cuts small, and start training the tree to maintain size. But if the tree is overly...

As a example, this is a large job we did. Now it took us basically all week to do, mostly due to break downs. These trees may have been better stick crane trees, but we still could do it...
