    Cottonwood climbing

Eastern Cottonwood about 100 footer. I really don’t like working or climbing these but, I’m trying to toughen up. I got to 70’ in a union and called it good. I went up and down 2 1/2 times. I was using my new Vertec and Squir 2 rope. Yeah I know I’m playing with the dark side but, I’m also...

A little challenge in this Sweet Gum/Amber. Cleaning deadwood and a little structure pruning. I had some deflection help from the other side before going up and coming down. It was actually a fun little job.

    Throw bag-line accuracy issues

All good advice and comments. I tried 10 through 16 oz bags. I still seem to be releasing late. Left to right is pretty accurate. I’m currently right (dominate) handed. I grip the line with a slip knot between the thumb and index finger. I’ve tried it without a knot but, slips sometimes. I’m...

    Throw bag-line accuracy issues

I should have mentioned that I’m practicing for competition. Helmet and PPE are a must. I’m reading through everyone’s comments. I’ll be playing more this week. Gloves on and off. Mostly late release straight up.

    Throw bag-line accuracy issues

IDK what’s going wrong but, suddenly I can’t hit anything. I’ve always considered myself “pretty good “ at getting a throw bag in the tree 1-3 throws. I have a bad shoulder that limits my accuracy to about 60ft. Yesterday, I was practicing at an open crotch at about 40+ feet. I threw numerous...

    Yanmar earns its keep!

Yanmar SA325 25hp. 29ft dead ash. Just because it could. I wouldn’t recommend it but I was just testing. Balanced on flat ground not torque it side to side. I also lifted these but, the 350lbs ballast not enough. The 1200lbs FEL is awesome. I don’t usually lift this much weight but, was playing...

    Structural pruning

We were given this little red maple that I planted at the back of our property. It is wonky and I think I should do something with it before it gets older. It’s not like it’s near anything but, I think it needs some structure to it. I’m not sure what to do, suggestions?

    How's the work flow?

I talked with a guy the other day that said they’re buying up small tree companies left and right. IDK if he’s with a big equity or investment or tree company. I ran into him at a friend’s tree job that I stopped by to assist with. He didn’t reveal who the parent company is but, asked me a few...

    Baby chipper won’t chip!…Fixed!

Fixed. I meant to comment in last post. I put new blades, anvil and reset gap between. .8-1mm as explained in a powerking manual. Seemed to be same machine. The machine chips like new again. IDK why but the new blades are at 30 degrees and I sharpened the old ones to 34 degrees. Now that I have...

    Baby chipper won’t chip!…Fixed!

I did and it’s violent for lack of a better word. Very aggressive with blades flipped. It is very noisy and jumping around. It pulls stuff in at high speed…kinda scary.

    Vandals. Grrr!

Sounds like a kid needs to work off the value of the tree. Maybe someone can have him load brush, firewood or something tree related. School teacher approach with a paper written regarding trees roles in our environment! Craig

Solo Night Climb and oak climb with a friend

I enjoy climbing as a hobby since it’s what got me climbing. In general any climb that challenges me is fun. I got to go with @Mss3y Mike a few weeks ago. We found a forest oak and he climbed around. I just hung out in the canopy and watched him. I did a night climb tonight in the dark start to...

Here’s a big dead ash with my MS460-25” bar laying across the narrow part of the stump. I think it’s the biggest ash for me and thankfully clear drop zone.

    2025 KYTCC Results

Exactly. I don’t think some folks understand how “exhausting” and demanding it can be. When competing at each event several minutes but, tech, judging, admin, clearing trees, setup etc amounts to 8-12 hours a day. Then you add in travel, hotel and other expenses it takes commitment. Craig

It was a fun event. I helped with work climb, masters and generally whatever else they needed. Got to be work climb judge. I was somewhat tired after 3 days but, I’ll volunteer again!
