when i climb on the RR i hold it with my right hand thumb kind of wedged between the side plates of the "nose" and my fingers on the spine. i pull down with my thumb to descend. whith the akimbo i tend to rest my thumb on the spine with my fingers wraped around the "nose". to descend i pull down...
the akimbo descends by pulling down on the top arm. if you had a hand ascender fail to grab and you had a footloop attached to it you could potentially have the weight of your foot/leg pulling the ascender down onto the top arm and cause an uncontrolled free fall. better to avoid the situation.
The tending point is intentionally small such that a full sized carabiner will not fit. Early on there was a lot of confusion over wether the tending point was usable as a mrs (or ddrt, or whatever) attachment point as well. It is not, and making it not fit a full size carabiner keeps people...
i think its going to come down to personal preference on this one. some will most certainly prefer the tried and true RR. just look at the diferences in opinion about the devices out there already. i doubt there will ever be a single climbing device that is perfect for everyone.
I just want to take a moment to say thank you.
Thank you to all of you who have helped me get this project so much farther than I had even imagined.
Thank you to Kevin, Gordon, Paul, Richard and all the other inventors, innovators, and tinkerers who paved the way before me. All the guys who...
I have but Jamie has been MIA.
@JMerritt
He's probably at RE HQ sorting things out.
Im just trying to keep my cool and be patient like everyone else. i feel like randy marsh right now, about to take the biggest s*%@ of my life! there is really nothing i can do to make things go faster, and...
I bought a couple of burr oak hybrid trees that are supposedly going to produce acorns with little to no tannins. I’ve always liked harvesting acorns but there is so much work involved in making them edible that I never do it anymore.
The black walnut is supposed to have a more intense flavor...
I just brought home a bunch of chestnuts from a job. There used to be quite a few chestnut orchards here in the Santa Cruz mountains. Now they’re are just remnants gone wild and a few big trees kept as yard trees. I picked the nuts off the ground though. I also collected a lot of California bay...
yes, and yes. most likely the user manual will contain a distillation of that list. keep in mind that the testing is done with a tight focus on safety performance rather than flying through the trees on a feather trigger ;).
I’d be interested to hear what people have to say about this. I’ve been thinking about getting a cheap battery saw for trimming up small wood for my pizza oven and such. I have a bunch of ryobi 1+ tools but the chainsaw looks crappy.
