That goofy dork looking guy Nick from Tree Stuff can shove it.

How’s this. When the former biggest employer in Haywood county NC, the Canton paper mill opens up (shouldn’t be hard, only closed a couple years ago), I’ll buy you tariffarians a $50 carabiner. It isn’t for lack of trees to harvest on the ground!

What's the size / weight range for that? My little guy is probably too small for it but I'm tempted.

Please consider changing the title of this thread. It’s petty and mean, and I’d like to have at least the illusion that there may be an adult conversation I could enjoy.

Are the manufacturing plants opening up in the old mill towns? My dad was in manufacturing. It all caved in 2009. No one even knows what the first step is at this point in getting manufacturing going again. I love the idea of investing in startups that focus on manufacturing here, we absolutely...

Yeah my bud Maria got stranded there. Bummer. Wishing the worst forecasts are wrong… I saw 18” of rain possible, 1000 year flood. I’ll be there next Friday presenting! If anyone here is going to be there please say hey!

You gotta talk up the blue ridge mountains! How fun and beautiful it is to live here. The biodiversity! The magnificent landscape (even in its Helene recovery!) Stuff like that made an impression on me on a post 9 years ago and it’s partly why I decided to move to Asheville ;)

I would call this a learning experience. Now you can outline a realistic expectation for customers and most of the time they will be pleasantly surprised by how much you did NOT fuck up their lawn. And when it just happens, you can say sorry, but this is just the nature of tree work. It’ll look...

Yes- I have connected two ropes with splices with a carabiner in the past, but I prefer not having hardware down where a branch could impact it during work. Zeppelin is very reliable and it makes me look cool tying it, which is of course very important.

ICE is abducting all kinds of folks now, not just folks of color but recently detained this white Canadian citizen, who was in one of the American Pie films. She was held for nearly two weeks due to an ‘incomplete work visa’. No political or legal conflicts whatsoever. “They are housed...

    Hey guys Czech this out

…what! This reminds me of a walnut I was deadwooding back in my rookie days in Brooklyn. It was in a park in the promenade, and part of the tree dropped down like 150 feet to the BQE (very busy highway). I skipped that section of the tree…

Throw bag hitting shingle roof...How bad?

Sometimes homeowners have bad ideas, this was not such a great idea. An arborist cares for trees… we have to advocate for them daily while still making sales... homeowners don’t know trees, so explain to them in a sweet way. Removing low limbs from trees increases their overall likelihood of...

tree rope winch and some large sturdy braces to save trees?

The trees pictured do not look particularly large or mature. In those growing conditions they can’t reach maturity, the soil is barely being held together. So time for new species. Seems like this is essentially a wetland now, so look towards wetland restoration projects for replanting (I’m sure...

What gave me hope today is that Ann Coulter spoke up against this illegal deportation attempt. The guy didn’t commit a crime. The right to protest and the right to free speech are enshrined in our constitution. They can’t just disappear people because of their politics, what the hell are we...

    Oh my handyman and landscapers!

One thing to think about is that the person who did it for $600 may hear from the client that someone bid $1000, and so he might look at the next job that’s similar and say I’ll try to bid $750, etc, and slowly the collective bidding increases. Prices in my service area were pitiful up until...

Another biggen today on an estimate of this and that… encountered 64” DBH Red oak on a ridge out in the country. No work to be done on this. Doing quite fine.

Even in the areas with large blowdown, there’s still a lot of surviving trees, which will hopefully take over the canopy in short order. I just went to a talk with a USDA Forest Service employee who laid out the situation we’re facing. The real work we need to do is remove all the fuel that’s in...

I’ve been dealing with a lot of biggens lately. We lost a lot of huge trees too in the storm. Trees over 36” DBH were 6% of the failures I surveyed and only make up 1.5% of the general population of trees. So there’s been a lot of talk about how we can retain these important trees, or what might...

Deadwooded a 44” White oak today that got real fat around 10’ up, put the tape on it and it was 71” diameter! Thing had very little pruning cuts evident (the one in the lower photo was the only one I could see anywhere) and very little deadwood, just some low key interior limbs and a few aborted...
