    Why not pick it with a crane if you can reach it especially if it sat for 2 weeks? Couple hours of crane time would be cheaper than all the man hours and less risk. Not trying to be critical just asking. I wasn' there so all the variables arent clear.

    I think your assessment is correct. Biggish stick, dead with a side lean. Cut too much hinge and you know what happens. Also for me on a tree like that I would have pulled out more bar for the back cut since the truck was right there. Thats just me.

    Working a leaning spar without an overhead TIP is one of the toughest aspects of climbing. I am not just talking slightly leaning I am talking 45%. Made more difficult when no bark dead, stability and balance takes practice.

    Yes but still doesnt prevent your body wanting to fall into the tree. That where the knee helps and adding the choked line like you suggested creates even more stability.
