    Lakeside Work

Some juices aren't worth the squeeze. We have a rich neighborhood right next to Detroit and some of the homeowners have an idea in their head that they get quoted unfairly high prices for tree work because "people think we have lots of money". Well they do, most are extremely well off. The...

    Root systems and foundations...discuss!

This is a frequently cited reason we're given by clients who want to remove giant healthy perfect trees. We usually just say no or tell them they can repair a good amount of damage to a foundation for the same price or less than a huge removal, plus it doesn't damage the ecosystem. They...

    SRS and MRS length

I also love the very clearly visible tails, which come out of the knot perpendicular to the rest of the line so you can see if anything is changing with the knot from a good distance away.

    SRS and MRS length

I use a Zeppelin bend on the retrieval side of a base tie when more length is needed. Easy to tie, easy to untie(even after loading heavily), easy to dress, set and verify. Also use it on rigging lines when pulling something.

    Syrup from the Twin Cities

Isn't it generally a 50:1 ratio? 5 gallons would be about 12 ounces.

    Two Rope Climbing

The Gyro swivel is a game changer as far as not getting lines twisted. There is always a way around it. If you're only using one system the extra hole can be used to attach a knee ascender. I love mine.

    Half time

I don't think Kendrick Lamar cares what we think about the halftime show and he doesn't need the publicity. My hearing is bad enough that I would have to turn on closed captioning and watch it about 3 times to get everything.

    Half time

Worth a read. I can admit to being one who wanted a more literal rebuke of what is happening and had trouble seeing what Lamar was doing. I will say that as soon as I saw Samuel Jackson, I knew something was happening because he is nobody's lapdog.

Sweet gum on property line, HOs disagree on limb removal

So much drama for so little consequence.

    New HitchHikerXF

There is a description of it in one of Richard's videos but he changed the way he refers to this hitch. Here's the link to the video where he ties it. It's the first one he shows.

Sweet gum on property line, HOs disagree on limb removal

If they want to retain that upright, offer to cable it and see if they're still serious. Could end up being a way to learn a new skillset. You could even tie it off with loose knots using appropriate cordage. Many ways to skin this cat without pissing someone off.

That is a lot of wraps. Are you a heavy climber or does that help with the kernmantle smoothness?

DownRigger, Rigging Wrench (or Scarab, or....)??

I have and like the Scarab. I also have two co-workers who each have a Morgan Block(Downrigger) on a sling and we use them regularly. Great for a butt control line on big pieces you don't want to take a big swing and easily managed by the climber/cutter. Compact, one piece, etc. Right tool...

AllGear 11.8 all Poly climbing lines

I recently bought an 84' piece for smaller trees and the first pass was able to milk 7" off the end. It now feels like a static rope and is nice and round. Yet to fly it

Break test results of various rigging slings constructed of 12 strand hollow braid

This is great info. I made up a small 3/8 T-rex ultra sling that I use for tons of things like rigging down smaller pieces, attaching the Maasdam to for pre-tensioning during cabling, etc, and now I feel better about it's strength relative to those tasks. It also seems that the ultra sling...

    Beefy hedge shears

I have also seen Taxus butchered and it charges back. I think you actually get better results taking it back to 1" wood than if you made smaller cuts.
