    Don't have to worry about this one anymore. The HO discovered it had a big root going under the corner of the house, and several days later a tree company with a big Terex took it down and ground out the stump and root.

    One of my favorite trees in the neighborhood...

    Closeups show lots of wound wood that appears to be holding the adjacent bark firmly in place. It's probably a race between the exposed wood rotting and/or getting attacked by insects and the wound wood closing over the damaged area.
