I have only ever footlocked this way while training and on belay, it is not somthing I would practice at work as there is no pressure to do your best time on th job site.
Attaching the figure 8 is difficult whilst hanging from the dorsal attachment but it can be done.
Mark, I agree with all the...

Surely you mean the Sternum (chest) attachment Cody? I can't imagine how it'd be done from the dorsal attachment (?).
I definatley mean dorsal (back) attachment, you just have to be prepared to hang fom it while you set up your figure 8 to decend (not very comfortable)
I have been experimenting with attaching my footlock prussik to the dorsal attachment on a full body harness, I have found it to be a good way to prevent the prussik catching and inhibiting movement. Does anyone know if this would be permissable in competition, I cant find anything in the rules...
If anyone would like a hook or lanyard like the ones featured in Ekkas vidio I can bring some with me to Minneapolis. They are produced by a friend of mine here in Victoria. There are several different models of lanyards and two different hook sizes, I will post a photo of the one I use...
Can somone tell me what the weather is likley to be doing around competition time, I need to know what to pack. I hope its not as cold as here at the moment.
This is my home made lowering device that is based on the principals of the porty. As you see it can only be used where vehicle access is possible.
The lowering rope can run straight from the tree to the device or re-directed at the base of the tree if lifting may be required.
I have given it a...

The chainsaw pants I am using at the moment are sold by the stihl dealers here, they have the stihl logo but I am not sure if they actually make them. They have 180 protection and are lined with a silky material so they dont get to sticky on the really hot days...
I was given a 35 meter length of velosity to trial about six months ago, since starting to climb on it I am now reluctant to use my other 1/2 inch 16 stand ropes and will only do so if I absolutley have to use a longer rope.
After using the lighter rope anything else feels heavy to drag around...
Re: Catalina Island : Final cut
Looks to me like it was a Blue Gum, that sort of decay level is very common with that species. They have been widley planted in urban areas over here and have increadible growth rates.
I was also wondering how to get my hands on some of those cut proof jeans?
I have been using the tree austria II for about 18 months now and are very happy with it. It is different to most other harnesses as the bridge comes from the leg loops rather than the back strap and this can take a bit of getting used to. There is plenty of adjustment but they tend to slip a...
the tree was around the 200 foot mark, as for safety, the rope was set with a big shot and runs through the top of the tree so the limb is only acting as a redirect. This is the tree from another angle.
Whenever accessing high trees I always use the rope walk technique. I think there are pictures of it and other methods in the sherril catalogue. The trick is to use a high quality full static rope ie. dyneema or spectra core, they are not cheap but a great investment. If you are climbing alot of...
The addition of the shock absorber in the new rope guide has not made the unit less safer than previous models. Whilsts it may only be in rare situations that the shock absorber is useful it can only improve safety. As climbers there is always the possibility of a fall and in some situations, a...
