    Sycamore and Elm climbing.

Wow. Thanks folks. The elms I’ve encountered are mostly forest trees. I’ve found a few at field edges that were pretty wide. The sycamores are definitely tall crazy long limbs regardless where I’ve seen them. I have a few different cambium savers but, no leather or Dan H type tubular ones. Craig

Any of you old farts competing and young guns volunteering? I’m going to do my best to be there for training day. Craig

    Sycamore and Elm climbing.

I’ve run across a bunch of very large native Elms (Slippery/American) and Sycamore. What do I need to know about climbing them? I’m thinking mostly recreational but, I would like to know in case I get work involving them. Both have a very nice wide spreading canopy. I did some scouting today and...

    Favourite SRS rope?

Courant Squir is my 1st SRS rope and I’m using the new Vertec. It’s great for long assents. I know a few competition climbers that use it. My other favorite is Samson Hyperclimb. I’ve used the Cool purple, silver ivy and current tango ivy. They are basically my working ropes. My 2 cents. Craig

    Throw bag-line accuracy issues

I think you can use a long swing and double the line through the ring. When it’s released it gives it that extra push. If you get the pendulum swing correct, you can adjust the hanging length to the ball. I tend to hold my elbow at a 90 and drop the ball to the ground. I think consistency as...

    Throw bag-line accuracy issues

I thought I would update. I’ve been doing a lot of practice. I’ve found my issue was my pendulum swing. Since I’m getting ready for comp and higher throws I wasn’t getting my impinged shoulder moving. Usually on short <50 ft throws I can get it with just a wrist or elbow movement. Now I’m using...

    Cottonwood climbing

@moss AJ I saw some post about someone with a tree “diary” I think you commented on. I’ve been thinking of doing something to record, document or video some sort of rec climbing. I think it would be cool to share about the tree and/or the owner. I’ve seen some great trees on private properties...

    Cottonwood climbing

Eastern Cottonwood about 100 footer. I really don’t like working or climbing these but, I’m trying to toughen up. I got to 70’ in a union and called it good. I went up and down 2 1/2 times. I was using my new Vertec and Squir 2 rope. Yeah I know I’m playing with the dark side but, I’m also...

    Work Photos

A little challenge in this Sweet Gum/Amber. Cleaning deadwood and a little structure pruning. I had some deflection help from the other side before going up and coming down. It was actually a fun little job.

    Throw bag-line accuracy issues

All good advice and comments. I tried 10 through 16 oz bags. I still seem to be releasing late. Left to right is pretty accurate. I’m currently right (dominate) handed. I grip the line with a slip knot between the thumb and index finger. I’ve tried it without a knot but, slips sometimes. I’m...

    Throw bag-line accuracy issues

I should have mentioned that I’m practicing for competition. Helmet and PPE are a must. I’m reading through everyone’s comments. I’ll be playing more this week. Gloves on and off. Mostly late release straight up.
