Two good removals today by/over a house, make a mess, let an excavator clean it up. ALL the firs around this house were topped like 40 years ago, which has naturally lead to bad structure, failures and damage. I wouldn't want these nasty regrown tops hanging over my house either, so away they went. Able to speed-line all the brush, multiple tops and some wood, lowered the largest section of the arm and then just tossed pieces of wood down from there.

It's always a wildcard what you find in terms of condition when you get up to the old topping cuts and resulting regrowth. The main regrown top on this one was leveraged a good way out away from the stem and like 25' tall on its own. Pretty unusually, the old topping cut sealed over 100% and had almost no decay which was very cool to see and gave me the confidence to get out there, climb up the stem over the house to like 4" and speedline the top over and away from the corner of the house. Saved the sealed topping cut too, looks pretty awesome.

The ivy-covered English walnut that was scaring the neighborhood is now gone. I cut the vines two months ago so they would start dying back. Used a lift to cut most branches, rigging larger segments that were over fences and cable line. That left a backward-leaning stem to fall using rope puller and wedges. The wedges got the stem standing straight, then the rope did the final pulling. Glad I left a 5" hinge because I was surprised to find most of the stump was punk. Felt some satisfaction when the whole non-straight stem landed on wood and missed the fence post just right. IMG_9809 1.JPG

For a minute I thought you were holding up a homemade hamburger bun.

When you pull the trigger one side of the pieces holding the wire loop opens up. There's a roller on the parts to reduce the friction, so the pull needed is very light. It's designed for up to one hundred pounds tension, but I doubt I'll ever get close to that.

I've had several panic snaps (made from zinc castings) break, so it was time to try something better. I'm well over a hundred shots with zero problems.

Spent a little time early this morning cleaning up a mess left by a tree service on the property next to where they were working. To the right of my rope are three broken limbs.

It looked better after I was done.

Of course there was a pile at the street to make the yard debris folks busy.

And I found some larger litter tubs for my ropes.
