I was working with my boss today not doing commercial tree work. We pull up to this one house and across the street was this masonary company removing an old driveway, and putting in some walls. Nothing out of the ordinary there. However, we soon noticed this little spanish guy doing the shiney hiney up a swamp maple with 2 other little spanish guys on the ground directing him to go up further. The guy doing the climbing had no harness, no climbing line, no helmet, no nothing, however he did have what looked to be a hank of Arborplex that he was dragging up the tree. Once he got about 25' off the ground, he tried to toss the rope up into a higher crotch. I guess he got it, because the next time I looked they had tied the other end of the rope off to a skid steer loader. He had what looked to be maybe an 021, or something similar up there with no strap. He's standing on a couple of branches and whacking off some branches about 4" in diameter. I was lucky enough to see him drop the top of the one lead he was on. From the looks of things, he had put a jump cut into the lead, and let the skid steer pull the lead over. I believe that he tossed the saw to the ground when the lead started to crack out. He was hanging out there while the guys on the ground did their thing with the same saw. Afterwards, it looked as though they were going to repeat the process with the skid steer. However the way things looked, I wouldn't be suprised if the guy was stuck in the tree. We took off before they were done, but man I sure wish I had brought a camera with me. On my way home from work later on in the day, I saw the truck they were using broken down on the side of a main road.
