I'm in madison, But have family in Green Bay That I also have to do some work for, I'd love to climb around for fun, no one at work ever wanted to just go out for fun where i was.

My Grandma's got the biggest recorded tree in Brown county right now, which i have yet to climb. Its a cottonwood, so not a super cool tree but its big and I think it'd be a good one. As far as Madison, I'm sure there are a ton of 70ft+ oak trees in parks, not sure on how O.K. that is to climb around on? I've never really just went and climbed around without doing work so I guess they shouldnt have issues with that right?

^It'd be quite a climb!

The previous largest tree in WI was in Montello. It was a cottonwood. I never measured it, but it had a plaque marking it and it was on the big tree registry for the state. Beautiful tree- lots of steel cables.

I wonder if I can go measure it and reclaim it as the king!!!

(ps- don't climb in city parks without permission or without knowing someone)

time to get this thread going more, anyone doing any rec climbing now that its nice out again? I gotta get into climbing again, too much time in school means too little time in the trees! anyone interested?

no, I wish! I'm in the mechanical engineering program... It makes me love tree work that much more haha. the campus has more of an anti-arborculture program, the trees have terrible cuts (most of them at least) and the people doing treework that I've seen in the area.... well lets just say not quite up to par. haha!
