Whiskey Whiskey Whiskey

I’ve never enjoyed any other neat whiskey as much as I enjoyed Midleton Very Rare.
Can sometimes find it at nicer Irish pubs, if you want a taste.
Maybe when I retire in 25 or 30 years I’ll treat myself to a bottle, otherwise I’ll be content with the occasional drink of it and daydream of it while sipping Jameson.

My lady and I did an American whiskey taste testing of a few bottles (Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, Weller Antique, and Weller Special Reserve) we had on hand and the Angel's Envy beat everything. The Weller Special Reserve came in second.

Tried the Angel's Envy Rye?
Amazing, aged in rum barrels.

Some would say this is far too large for cocktails. I say it's just right and the ice not melting much means your drinks get less diluted. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.20191212_213159.webp

Haven’t tried that one or even see it before, I had the stout caskmate it was ok. I’ll have to find a bottle of that. I do love the plain old Jameson, and the 18 year old is amazing.

How much h $$$ for the Weller special reserve?

This is my new go-to bulk whiskey. I'm almost ashamed at how long it took me to try this whiskey classic. It has beaten many American best sellers in our head to head taste tests including my beloved Maker's Mark (the original). Four Roses is truly top shelf in the taste and ease of drinking categories. Their small batch version is even better.View attachment 64253
Four Rose's has a damn good line of bourbons that all test well, especially for the $$$

Not a bad buy at $25ish for an Old Fashioned rye mixer. I suspect Dickle Rye is better but a head to head taste test is planed to substantiate this theory. I would encourage side by side comparing, it's fun and really the only way to figure out what you like best.View attachment 64254
I really like an inexpensive rye for mules and Manhattans.

Not to say a top shelf cocktail is a bad thing though!

Wait... you get drunk with a mule and people from New York? Or, is it a Moscow Mule and you've joined Team Trump? I'm confused. I mean, sure... I've gotten drunk with a lot of jackasses. Even gotten some ass when I was drunk. Even woke up with in a tent with a pack mule that one time in the Grand Canyon. But your drinking habits are a riddle to me.

Good haul, so far. Freezer full of venison, a buttload of kitchen appliances, some ugly sweaters, tons of kiddie toys I can donate to a charity and look like a nice guy, a rickety sleigh I can sell for scrap, a bunch of women's clothing I can send to @evo and @rico, some cookies and a bottle of rum.

I've still got this dead, fat guy bleeding out by the fireplace, but I'll dump him somewhere over on the poor side of town before the sun comes up.
