What's your lanyard made of?

Re: What\'s your lanyard made of?

I bought some 3/8" KMIII a while ago and then used a Tibloc for a few days. tibloc picked the rope so bad that I retired it. Now I have a long length with many short sections that have a clear sheath. Every once in a while I whack off a chunk for some project. When I get home I think I'll try some for my lanyard. I do like a lanyard that is limper...at least in the past I did. things change so I might like the 3/8"KMIII now.

15' blaze, aluminum snap.

I used to have a 25' blue streak lanyard, that added a lot of weight to my saddle. From there I went to 25' of velocity (the only velocity I have bought) which worked pretty well. Now it's the blaze. I shortened the overall length because it was just getting in the way.

Next up will be KMIII. I don't have any 3/8 but 7/16 should work too. plus it's bright yellow/green so I will look faster.

I have 2 lanyards in my gear bag. A 1/2" 16 strand for pines and a longer 10mm Bee Line for the others.

My Bee Line is getting shaggy. What do you think about All Gear's Kevlar 8mm prusik cord for a small diameter lanyard?

I think it would be nice and light. I have a 9mm that I use as a lanyard when pruning, but I don't think it's properly rated. The kevlar in the allgear cord solves that problem.

Re: What\'s your lanyard made of?

I have 20 feet of blaze as well and like the extra length. When I was first gettin use to it I hated it, but then I figured it out...
Even when I daisy chained it pulled out and/or got in the way so after daisy chaining (all but the few feet that I would normally wear) I put a dog snap on the last loop to my gear loop in back. That way the daisy chain stayed tucked up and I never noiticed it, I still had the tail tied off for a back up hold, and if I needed the extra length I could just reach back and unsnap the dog leash. Easy Peasy

Re: What\'s your lanyard made of?

I've been using a chunk of True Blue - 10 feet tied with a double fishermans. It works awesome and is very visible. This reminds me... there is a photo in the new Bailey's cataloge with a climber using my identical setup. I really would like to get a 5/8ths by 10 foot Maxi-flip for removals etc. What are ya'll folks opinions on the Maxi-flip anyhow? I wish they offered an option of getting it with an alumninum snap instead of the weighty steel snap though.

My next splicing project...

I have some Samson Ice Tail which I made a wicked split tail from doing a straight burry for four feet and lock stiching etc. looks and performs quite well.

I'd like to take advantage of Ice Tail's Technora construction by doing an 11 foot burry and using it as a lanyard, tied with a stiched stopper knot at the end of course... also thinking of pulling the entire thing through the jacket of a length of 5/8ths double braid so the jacket can take the wear and the core can take the weight (technora being rated at over 8000 lbs tensile). Now I know I lose some strength with the burry since it tightens up the weave, but the technora is still plenty strong and it's cut resistant qualities are far superior to poleyester, yet lighter than aircraft cable. A beefy sounding lanyard for removals. I'm pumped to try it out.

Re: What\'s your lanyard made of?

Velocity, Blaze, and Fly. With the Grillion the Blaze seems the smoothest. With prussik/pulley I like the Velocity.

I use the Fly mainly in between nicks and replacement buys for the other 2 because I have about 100' left after not liking to climb on it ;)
