All jokes aside, I agree with @SomethingWitty, relatively cheap hiking boots are the best. I wouldn't want to destroy a couple hundred dollars worth of shoes in a tree all the time. Then again, I don't do this for a living.
What I use are hiking boots by Mountain Guide, I found them for 15€ at a garage sale, they were worn only once. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn I use them at work, for hiking and of course for climbing. They have good grip and a relatively flexible sole, but not so flexible that you can't stand in a tight crotch or use a 6mm footloop for an extended period of time. I don't know how they'll be with a foot ascender, I don't have one yet. I've had them for around a year, they are still going strong, and I don't go easy on them.View attachment 60456

I'll be getting one as soon as I get back to Germany, I'm not getting one here (about to order some stuff from treestuff) because they're actually more expensive here. I think I'll get the ISC stryder, any issues with that? I'll also be constructing an original saka.

I wasn't a fan, but some guys seem to like them.
I REALLY prefer the CT.

Huh. We got two (treestuff shipping mistake. We called and they said good for you!) And I had no idea that the lock was removable. I broke the lock during routine work, and the release for the strap broke off on my wife's. There was probably twenty hours in the air between the two ascenders.

The feel is strange and the straps don't tighten or release easily.

I like the tango lights. The sole isn't pick up rocks on the ground skicky, but its soft enough for good traction in a dry tree. Wet is not so good. The tread it not ment for traction on the ground, unless on pavement. Durability is great so far. I've had the for about 9 months, but I do at least as many if not more removals on spikes than trims and I use loggers for spikes. My tangos probably have 50-75 or so climbs of decent size on them and very little wear and tear.

No issues, zero kickout unlike petzel. I've used it on my 13mil line a couple times too.

I wear ArbPro Evo2s, and find them to be great for pruning, and they work with my spurs well too. They also have enough cushion in the sole to walk around on the ground comfortably, unlike the Clip n Step, or Tangos. However, if all I did was pruning, and I didn’t do so much ground work, I would probably choose the Clip n Steps.

I sent pictures of the Clip'N'Step boots to Wesspur and they sent the pictures to the manufacturer in Italy. We got a response within a day "This is a defect, too little glue between the upper and lower sole. We will replace free of charge". Nice to know that they are going to cover it! And kudos to Wesspur for doing the legwork for me.

Does a foot ascender dig into the side? That’s why I like the tango light because it has that extra protection there. However looking at getting clipnsteps before they are discontinued

Was using my hikers from vasque. Liked them a lot. Just got a pair of Meindl airstreams but haven’t climbed in them yet. They are crazy comfortable, very light, a little bulky (almost look like snowboard boots) and stiffer.
