What kind of trees are these?

Hi! These two trees are in my yard, and I’m hoping someone can tell me what kind of trees they are. The first 3 photos are a tree in my front yard. There is a lot of growth along the trunk, and I’m wondering if this needs pruning, as other neighbors with this same tree do not have the same growth present along the trunk. The tree was planted approximately 3 years ago.

The next 3 photos are a tree in my back yard. This poor thing was also planted 3 years ago and has not seen much, if any, growth in that time. I’d love to help it along if I knew what kind of tree it is.

Thank you!

In Jacksonville that would be a river birch. Front yard tree is a Live Oak. Not sure exactly why it is throwing the sprouts like that on the lower trunk, but go ahead and prune them off. Create a mulch ring of about 4 feet in diameter around both trees.

Live oak and Birch. Both are planted too deep and stressed as a result. Excavate their root collars to expose the first lateral root at the surface and check for circling and girdling roots. When they are found, cut them. Also loosen the soil outside of the root ball with a spade to allow the roots to move through it easier. (You don't have to turn over the soil.. just insert the blade of the spade straight down perpendicular to the trunk of the tree outside of the root ball and wiggle it until you've made radiating lines about double the diameter of the root ball-like the spokes of a bicycle) While you're doing this, check to see that they aren't still in their pots.
