What did you find in a tree today?

It seems I never have a camera with me when I find stuff... but HOLY POSSUM TESTICLES, BATMAN! I actually had it with me today!

And, I just knew it would happen someday... a friggin' bear in a tree! In Nebraska, no less!

We were all like, "Eeeeeeek! A bear!" and then pitched it into the chipper. No, we didn't. We set it on their porch.

Found this in a tree a couple of weeks ago. She was 26' up in a big woodrat nest in a Doug-fir. She had a belly full of chipmunk and was curled up under some limbs on top of the nest. She looked pretty content. We forced her to regurgitate her meal (because we wanted to document what it was) and then turned her loose. Pretty interesting day. DSC_1490.webp

You should never take too much interest in snakes and chipmunks in public. If you see a guy holding a piece of PVC pipe and an air compressor... winking at you... you'll know you should have talked about the weather, instead.

Please be careful with forced regurgitation. Often the snakes won't make it too long afterwards.

I had a herpetologist friend do the forced regurgitation for me. He is an expert with this method. After the snake ate 3 lab mice she was released several days later with no ill effects. But your point is well taken. If the technique is not done correctly it can kill the snake.
