What Brand of climbing saddle do you use ?

ha, mr chisholm, hearing that will never get old, but i agree, treemotion is a great saddle but dont buy the caritool carabiners, they are terrible, yesterday i had my bridge get stuck in it when i was limb walking, talk about a great time to have to work that out

I had a branch get stuck in that silly add on krab.
I have two for sale....10 cents each plus shipping.
I also made the mistake of putting the petzl swivle on the bridge....I had to climb on it for a while but i now FULLY understand what everyone was talking about with the rope getting ALL twisted....went back to the ring and now i be a happy climber.

Interesting that this is a topic! I am currently in a komet 1,Have been since the first one came out. However, I was just contemplateing buying a new saddle and was going to post a similar question.
Very appreciative of all the feedback!!!

I wonder where you have the caritool placed on the saddle to have the bridge get stuck in there? Do you have any pics of your setup?

I recently (one or two months ago) swapped out a regular aluminum non-locking carabiner for a caritool at the right side of my saddle where the chainsaw clips into and so far it's been great. I like that it stays put and doesn't shift around, and the gate area doesn't snag the ring on the chainsaw lanyard as much as the last biner I was using.

In defense of the caritool....

Sounds like the caritool is a problem on the TM saddle... I can see how having the bridge getting caught would be a real problem.

I have one on the right side of my BFII and it's money well spent.

Kolibri is the deal! I love it. The only complaint is no snaps like the buckingham's have. Other than that, I have no complaints. I went from a Buckingham Master II to the Kolibri. It is amasing the difference a bridge makes and the leg pads are great. I wish I could find the top harness to make it a class III

I don't see how it would be possible either. I had the opportunity to climb on a Treemotion for a couple weeks (loved it!) and kept a caritool on it at all times. You'd really have to put the thing in an odd spot to get the bridge stuck in it.

Buckingham Master (original)

But have not done a climbing job in 3 years, except for a few crabapples here and there.

Wow! What alot of different saddles everyone uses!
The main thing I get out of this informal poll is, if ya wanna know about the different saddles the pros use, check the Treebuzz! :
Number 1 is the most used saddle, and number 16 is the least used

1. B'fly with 6 climbers reporting
2. Kolibri with 5 climbers reporting
3. Glide & B'Master 4 each
4. TreeMagic 3 climbers
5. Pinnacle, Sierra moreno Ultra Light , TreeMotion 2 each
And last is; Komet, Williams T2, TreeFlex, B'Traverse, Versatile, Austrian Duo, New Tribe, Weaver

Of course this poll does'nt really mean anything, for example the climbers reporting represent and incredibly small amount of the climbers in the trade (Altho they are Treebuzzers and that makes their opinion important), and also;

Many climbers who have participated in this poll say they have their eyes on a new saddle purchase.
Good examples of this are the TreeFlex & the TreeMotion. Both saddles are very new to the industry but both seem to already be accepted by climbers.

Thanks for participating

Frans

P.S.: Does anyone use that Sierra Moreno saddle with the permanently attached shoulder harness? I forget the name right now but Gary Aborgena has used one for years...

This has been fun Frans

We are currently compiling the overwhelming scientific evidence supporting the ergonomic case that centres on the TreeFlex design.

Lots of authors with PHDs etc ...I had no idea books could cost that much!

Whatever harness climbers use currently, please don't let it cloud the view to a new age of ergonomic techniques and equipment; they are key to tree worker well being. TreeFlex is already there, you just have to adopt SRT ascent and meet it in the middle.

Funny that the most used saddle is the B'fly. It is a simple clean design. The treeflex does not vary too much from that design except that:

the leg straps are adjustable on the TF
The back pad sets lower
The bridge is more adjustable

So the two saddles look alike, but are truly to different saddles.

I think that every one who is a lover of the B'fly, is attempting to have a saddle that works like the TF.

IMO

hey guys, i know this caritool thing is a long a comin but i just caught up with yall, my caritool is where they have designated spots for them and when i was limb walking my bridge slid to my left side as it usually does and just got caught up in there. i have fixed the problem though. i purchased the blue bandit and i placed the rubber bands over the metal snap and over the plastic so that the biner doesnt open unless i slide the rubber band down, it actually works quite well

Frans, are you talking about the grey and black leg strap style harness? Most of the guys I am working with at Pacific Tree Care (Joe schneider's co.) are using those saddles, and I think I saw Robert Phillips using the same one as well, maybe I'm wrong? They seemed to like them, actually one of the foreman has had his for almost ten years, but maybe because the company won't buy him a new one

Yes, the BryDan.
The first saddle with permanent shoulder straps. Large D rings and a fixed main attachment point. Very sturdy saddle but comfortable. Yes Robert Phillips has one and I used one for a few years.
