wondering anyone has experience with these spurs. The model with the snowboard straps is interesting. But the grips looks interesting.

The grips are removable from what I’ve seen, and the idea is there but I haven’t found any of the bottom rubbers or CNC milled grip lines to actually aid in gripping limbs but these obviously would have some real bite. The straps I’ve been curious about since the “spike pods” were released which seemed to have a good overall reception? They have seemed to step up the marketing for these lately

I bought the spikepod straps for my spurs and really like them for a good snug fit. A couple of the screws holding them together came apart and rather than replace the screws they just sent me the newest version of them and they're really great. I realize this isn't about the FTC spurs specifically but I can vouch for the snowboard binding style ratcheting straps.

I prefer to not lose attachments from climbing gear.

I always have a rope, but some people don't. Losing a spur mid-climb, no rope...bad news.





Are they better than bomber velcro straps? Without any real attempt at cleaning, my velcros are years old and plenty good enough, but not as new.


Being for use in high-altitude sun exposure, I hope (anticipate??) that the plastic is UV-tough.

You can get them a lot tighter with a lot less effort than velcro, as well as releasing them much more easily. The release takes deliberate action but is physically easy. Another problem that they solved for me is that I have found that even when I get my spurs nice and tight on the ground, they always get looser as I climb. The ratcheting mechanism makes tightening aloft very easy, and also makes putting them on when you're already in the tree very easy. Also they don't get dirty like velcro. The loose screw issue has been addressed with the more recent design, at least for the spikepod version. With enough refinement and practice, any of the spur attachment options work just fine. These just work better with less effort for me personally.
