I borrowing my buddies Woodmaxx this week to see how painful it would be to use a mini chipper. I laughed when he first bought this thing because all I ever knew were commercial machines but I was pretty impressed with what we got done. I had 1 groundie covering two climbers doing clearance pruning at a condo complex, and he still kept up with the chipping. Being able to wheel this thing from tree to tree was great, no dragging brush, no issues staging the chipper in the closest parking lot. We chipped straight into a wheeled commercial sized green bin and in the end one of the residents took all the chips. The material just took care of itself.
Pruning is a totally different ball game. These chippers have their place, even with the big outfits. You can't beat the portability, there's just a limit to what they can do. If you line up your removals on days where you can rent a machine or sub out the clean up you might not need a truck and chipper.
I priced out the Peruzzo and Greenmech. They're both coming in at around 10k Canadian. They of course have the 18hp as opposed to the 13.5 on the Woodmaxx. But the Woodmaxx would be roughly 3kCAD.
