Vermont rec climb in Feb.

Been here a while
Hello buzzards,

Posting to let any interested parties know that I am going to put on a rec climb in my home town of Hinesburg VT. I have a spot in the woods a short hike from the center of town, lots of big ol' sugar maples. Thinking Sat. Feb. 23rd, weather permiting. Probably start in the mid morning and go thru the afternoon. I'm inviting all the locals I know and figured I'd throw this up for anyone interested. Hinesburg is about tweny minutes south of Burlington for reference. I don't have space to put up travelers unfortunately, but anyone is welcome to come. Anyone looking for more information just let me know.

Plenty of hotels about 15 miles away in the Burlington area.

This is in my back yard too. Unfortunately I'll be travelling back from San Fran and the ASCA Academy so I won't be able to make it.

That's a bummer Rick, I was hoping to meet you in real life. Some other time I guess. As far as hotels, I just did a search on expedia and room 77 sites and there were a lot of hotels in Burlington for under a hundred bucks. Don't stay at the anchorage inn. And I would shy away from any of the fifty dollar hollers. I drive past them a lot, they all look like dumps from outside god knows what the beds look like. That's just my opinion though.

Let's open this up to carpooling and potential extended stays. Tania and I are thinking of heading up Friday afternoon and staying Friday & Saturday night. Head back South on Sunday morning...after a "climber's breakfast"!

If anyone from southern climes is in for a bit of a weekend and wants a lift, we can accommodate. PM me if you're down.

Awesome Eric, can't wait to see you. Just went out and scouted around the spot and there are some pretty cool trees up there. Should be a lot of fun. There's also a new pub right in Hinesburg, I was figuring we could go warm up there afterward.

Sounds great, Rick. AR is going to be one of my main focuses this year. I really want to get more training and practice. We'll make it happen soon. I've been talking to Beth from Heritage about it as well. Think we could get a group together.

Sounds like a plan.

Also have been thinking about a throw-line afternoon.

Maybe we could get half a dozen or so of us together and play H.O.R.S.E. with the throw lines. Maybe even make it more intersting by playing for a prize

Could play for a quiver of 8, 10, & 12 oz. Harrison Rockets in a Falteimer cube. Now, I'll play for that!!!

We did it down at Geezers and we played for a 50/50 cash pot and it was a hoot!

Got pretty serious pretty quick and everyone had some quick improvements along the way. Not to mention when you get half a dozen decent climbers together the techniques you learn are worth while.

I'll chime in early and say, "Yes, by all means. This is the PERFECT venue for a new climber." One common thread of many rec climbs I've been to is what a great time it is to learn something new, or implement new gear in a low pressure environment. The need for 'production' is non-existent, and people are there to make new friends, meet old friends, and SHARE.
