Loyal Vermeer owner here when it comes to chippers and stump grinders. Been running them for years and keep coming back to Vermeer for those items (although I also like Rayco stumpers but that's a different topic).
My loyalty to vermeer stops with mini skids. I can actually say I've owned and operated just about every brand and model mini skid on the market (all but Finn and Kanga) and I keep coming back to the Ditch Witch sk650. One hell of a machine. I have not run the vermeer 650tx so I can't compare the two but I have run the diesel 600tx and there is no comparison.
If you have not run the ditch witch sk650, you need to just to make sure you're making the right decision. Vermeer no doubt knows how to make machines that are comfortable to operate and that run relatively well. However, a skid steer is about power and lifting capacity and I'd sure as heck want to demo both models before spending $20k + on a new one. I could see going with one or the other because it was a great used deal but, when buying new, you might as well give the sk650 a try to know how the vermeer 650 stacks up..
