I haven't personally done much 16strand before but I am aware Courant are particularly precious about their methods.

That was my understanding. I just wondered if the greater knowledge of the hive mind had any insight.. perhaps just personal experience/experiment, um only in it to expand my knowledge and geek out over rope

I can't think of another rope manufacturer that does that. That is a bit scummy.

I guess it's their proprietary right to not disclose the instructions.

I think I'll exercise my right to not support what I view as shitty business practices. Plenty of other ropes in the trees.

I don't buy a rope if I can't splice it. But I don't think that matters to the rope manufacturers because the number of people that splice their own is a tiny fraction of the market.

if you talk to Brocky, it seems like any rope can be spliced if you're determined enough.

If they don't let me splice their rope then I don't buy it. Simple as that. But a friend just came by with a piece of Courant Komura 16 strand and I spliced it with a standard 16-strand splice except that I only removed 4 pairs of cover strands for the taper instead of 5, and it came out looking and feeling perfect. But I have not had it break tested, so I can't tell you how it compares with their secret splice.

Another splicing method might be a Tuck Bury, I’m going to send this one for testing, hopefully get as good of results as the Class II ropes.

The black rope is Teufelberger’s Rescue Assault, parallel strands with an inner cover of aramid, is the next challenge.

Sent it in with a couple others, the 20 year old XTC broke at 5020, it has a break strength of 6,200 lbs. Came apart at the end of the tucks and the where the core strands end at the end of the tucks. The buried tail, a fid and a half, broke at the same spot, and was melted solid.

I will take 5 grand. Most likely will not break unless you haul on it with a 4x4 pick-up.
