On November 4, 2016, we learned of an issue with the cast (Version 2) Singing Tree Quickies. We released this Technical Notice 1 to address this issue.

In the days following the release of this technical notice, we learned of a related issue with both the milled (Version 1) and cast (Version 2) Singing Tree Quickies. Sales of both products were suspended while we investigated the causes and solutions associated with the issue.

Please read the updated Technical Notice 2. This notice explains that issue and our findings. Sales of the Quickie will resume pending pin replacement as detailed in the Technical Notice 2.

Thanks for the update.

Where it says TS will send out replacement Slic Pins I assume that applies only to original purchases and not to anything bought on the secondary market?

If you have one you bought or got from someone else, we will replace it with the better pin. Just email tech@treestuff.com to get on the list.

I have a first (milled) version quickie. last week sometime I had this very issue. I finished my climb and pulled my canopy anchor down and noticed the first plunger on the slik pin had been disengaged . I didn't think much of it (maybe I didn't have it completely set when I sent it up? ). I've still been using it and haven't had much concern about it but it did happen. I'll check for the email. Thanks for putting out the notice.

No. This is a different issue requiring force, similar to that used when opening a carabiner, in combination with a very specific set of actions.

Thanks Nick. If you ever get a video of it happening I would love to see it from an Engineering stand point. Slick pins and other similar pins get used all the time in other rigging trades also.

If you had the slick pin facing away from the tree it could not have been this issue. My guess is it wasn't clicked in. In our testing it is impossible to cause this type of opening in any normal use scenario or even when used improperly.

With improper use I guess it might be possible but we can't even make it happen on purpose.

I am very vigilant about how I set up my system, so I'm kinda thinking it could've been from pulling it down through some suckers or branches that did it. Like I said, I'm not real concerned with it but I will email about an extra pin also.....I think so anyway. Thanks Nick
