Unicender

jimmy, I am in now way rich, I do "favors" for people at the local bathhouse. It pays well.

I like the pulley you added on. I tried the uni out for the first time yesterday. Had to deadwood 3 100ft tulip poplars. I decided to go srt with the uni in a frog type system. Worked out great. I was able to work the whole tree while ascending.

To top it off. I just recently joined a gym and yesterday was my first day of work after working out. Needless to saw I was extremely sore. I got through the job with no problems with enough time to do a small emergency job.

The uni has already paid for itself (well, at least it would have if I had made more money for the emergency job)

Jimmy, nice mod. The bottom gate on the Uni is one area I think could use some improvement.

Family tree, Where was the Uni in your frog setup? I have used it in a frog setup two ways, first with using it to replace the top ascender. That worked ok, but using it to replace the croll, I find to be much better. I have only used it in this configuration twice, but there appears to be an obvious improvement in the whole mechanics of the thing.

With the Uni attached to the top of your chest harness, its responsiveness is exactly what I like. Very smooth, very easy.

As good as this system works, using it on a doubled rope system is just amazing. I realize there are many attributes of single rope that I am unfamiliar with, but with doubled rope and the Uni, it responds exactly as I hoped it would. Very controllable, limb walks easier than they have ever been; and even though I have had this unit for a very short time, I can accomplish one handed limb swings with every bit as much confidence as I have experienced with a hitch.

This is a good tool.

Last weekend I took a friend climbing. She had never been on a rope before. this is her response:

WOW!!! I had a great time on my first climb. You made it easy for me to be successful. The unicender was perfect for a beginner, but when we go again, can I use it again? As an experienced kind of tool girl, that tool is the best! My pneumatic squeezer for rivets on the airplane tail now comes in second. I really enjoyed the awesome adventure you gave to me. Thom, thanks tons. Pat

A sweet mod, Jimmy!

I had put in a 3/8" diameter pin for the redi for the first redi mod. Adding a sheave will make it soooo smooth I'm sure!

Nice Mod Jimmy.

Here's a UNI with the 'L' on the bottom. It tends really well but I think I'd like to see more to keep the tail inside -- like this here pulley mod.

When I get through ascending, I unclip the top from the wire gate carabiner. Having three sizes of ISC 'biners made it easy to tune.

Here's another one, "in action". Had to make it more difficult because there was a camera around.

Navigating through a crotch with this system isn't as difficult as other methods.
