tripping a widow maker

there is NO WAY that Daniel is wrong

Daniel could walk into an empty room and have an argument.

Still waiting for X-man to comment on his 'downs syndrome' remark.

Well welcome to the site then..
I went to a wedding celebration at Skip Armstrong's place in Sisters in August. Skip is pretty well known in those parts.

If you want to discuss escape routes, you can start a new thread or find an old one.. I AM sure Tony would be happy to reitterate his suggestions for applying the 90-15-5 rule in arboriculture.

I AM still waiting to hear from Sean about the latest video. Anyone who has used the USFS cut, he demonstrated, can take one look at the new video and see that the plunge is far superior to Sean's. It is faster, easier, safer, and less problematic. It shoudl be obvious to anyone with experience in these cuts, that the plunge is a great improvement.

I used Sean's cut for fifteen years, before adding the plunge in 2004. Going back to his technique, for me, would be like going back to an old school tautline hitch. There is just no comaprison.

BUT no one here has the bills to say so. Spineless.. I've gotten apologetic PMs from people admitting that my suggestions were good, BUT no one is man enough to go public with such admissions.

I put up the "proof" and we get comments about escape routes and gutter cleaning. Proving once again that this site is more of a social clique, where no one has the spine to speak out, if it goes against the trends, rather than any type of serious discussion amongst professionals.

daniel get real dude, if your going to plunge a hanger why wouldn't you leave a heavy strap and let the hanger peel to the ground as you finish the cut, what your doing isn't cutting edge.

"rather than any type of serious discussion amongst professionals."

Are you saying that that is what you are engaging in here? Are you kidding me?

Cat got your tongues?

There's some serious dicussion. Totally unsolicited, serious discussion. Seriously.

One thing i keep thinking about when i see this vid ,is that top strap. It may save the necssity of using wedges to stop the saw jamming ,but i can think of a number of situations where that loose strap could be extremely dangerous. In this instance the tree was sound but if it were defective in the base the way that strap tears could be unpredictable ie rip out sidways or tear farther up the tree to then want to come down on the left or right of the stem .Me i'll stict to wedges and a pull line, i don't need to reinvent the wheel just need to get better at doing things conventionally .
By the way keep up the razzing i get a kick out of the sledging lol.

I don't really understand what you are trying to achieve Daniel. You are posting videos that contain objectionable material in a forum that is populated by some of the most professional and safety minded people in the industry. So far you haven't reacted well to criticism of any sort. Are you infallible? You seam to believe so. I was taught safe safer and safest. Your techniques look lazy to me. You yourself have said so. I hope you stay safe and don't end up a statistic.

Mike , you gotta love insanity . It's perfect . One of the main reasons I love tree work . Not just who you meet but what you meet . Beautiful. take another beer ...thanks , spray the infield , put a nipple on two of them and get some warm milk for the quitters . Heres' ur tip ... don't serve treeguys !

Your idea of serious, discussion is suggesting that a logger take a GRCS out into the woods on a beech dolly.. Now THAT is funny... LOL

I thought it was pretty funny, too. Probably got a few good laughs from folks that make a living doing it I guess. I'm not a logger.

I deleted my original reply because it was inflammatory and didn't really solve anything.

When lampooning others, accuracy packs more of a wallop. The correct nomenclature is "Beach Rolly".

By saying "Beech Dolly" you come off sounding ignorant, and we all know there is NO WAY that you don't know what you are talking about.

BTW, I think you are a good person Daniel, and I hope to be able to meet you in Pittsburgh at TCIA. I probably won't want to talk about "cutting trees", but I do like that you are passionate about what you do. That is important for our industry. I am all for passionate people in our industry, because it elevates trees to a higher social importance when people buy into a crazy man's interpretations of how this job is done.

Just put Safety First. That's all I care about when I watch your videos. There are many times when you are putting Git R Done at a higher level than Safety First. Ideally, you should run at about 30% Git R Done, with about 70% Safety First. If it gets to be about 50%/50%, slow down, recharge the camcorder batteries, take a swig off of an O'Douls.

Safety First man.

Love,

SZ

Yes, that should not have been posted on treebuzz. I removed it.

Looks like they watched some of your videos and went after it!

And I quote Daniel Murphy...

[ QUOTE ]
99+% of the pro arborists in the USA have no clue.. And the vast majority of people that teach arboriculture don't know. I'd bet money that Sharon Lily and David Gerstenberger have no clue and I'd be surprise if anyone at asplund or davey could tell us.. It'd be fun to see if any of those judges running in with their rulers could tell you why..

This industry is totally in the dark.. the overwhelming majority don't have a clue about the reasons.. they just fall trees the way they were told (and most of them, at least around here, pretty much suck at it)..

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't put those two homeowners in with the pro group. They were working on their own tree...and got very lucky. I thought that I was going to witness a death at any second!

Oh...its Peter Gerstenberger not David.
