tripping a widow maker

Don't put those two homeowners in with the pro group. They were working on their own tree...and got very lucky. I thought that I was going to witness a death at any second!

Oh...its Peter Gerstenberger not David.

This IS Murphy's thread. I was just quoting his statements. It had nothing to do with the vid posted above. Let's not forget that Murf stated 99+%. That would include you and almost all else reading this thread and pretty much all of Treebuzz.

I am sorry for my besmudgery. I had no idea my besmudruancey would have such a great impact on these American boards.

managed to drop this hung tulip as part of a 2,350 job yesterday... no chipper, no bucket, no skid steer.. 2 men, pick up and stump grinder... didn't get to the job til after 4.. finished the last stump by flashlight.. without this cut, there is no way I'd have had time to finish.. unfortunately I didn't take a good before shot of the hung tree.. here's one just before the last cut was made

Why not cut off part of that stump before grinding?

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah really! My co-workers would be verbally beaten down for grinding that without taking another chunk off with a saw.

Oh well, I guess they saved so much time with the special cuts that they had tons of extra time to waste.

there are a lot of factors that go into making that kind of decision Dave.. The only saw cuts were made to drop the leaner. at $213/man/hour, just figure I know something that you don't ...

Look at all the rock my co-worker dug out of the biggest stump of the job.. there is a blue glove hanging on the near stump for perspective.. the rear stump was actually a 10' log the tree company had left behind, lodged in the stump. I was able to grind out most of the roots holding it in place, then use a block placed in the little maple to the left (just barely visible in the pic) to pull it out of the way...

There are some really rocky areas that were nailed by Sandy.. I've found that the short pry bar shown is by far the best for the job. Far easier to handle than a 5' digging bar.

Good size job Murph, you guys are still cleaning up from that storm. Crazy.

Those chunks are a PITA to deal with. I'd need to bring another truck with a loader, then dump em' somewhere, eventually split em up. Yeah it takes a little time, but I like grinding it in some cases.

Xman, I don't take Murphy to be a big fan of wasting time, I figure he's into efficiency if anything.

Oh come on hun that's...

...anyway... Murph same gas can too, but I've been using those for years. I got to get me one of those pry bars, would come in handy tomorrow, got a half dozen stumps to grind.

then get yourself a 75' altec elevator... Just went to Kmart tonight to pick up another couple of those rough neck rope bins... they were on closeout... discontinued.. that hard plastic blows up if you sneeze on it.. gonna miss those rough necks
