Trees from a distance

Quercus of some kind ? There's a pin oak (Quercus palustris) but I don't know if that's around your area?

Also, we need to give Gord a handicap. He's too good. How about he has to hang upside down while looking at the photos?

Nope, not Pin Oak, but I do think Pin oaks are great trees. In fact all oaks are great trees especially the white oak and southern red.

Go get em easy!

I'll just sit back here and watch.

I got nothing left, except to randomly guess.

Is it one of those weeping Doug Firs, but without all of the fir needles?

I think it could be a common oak Quercus robur or another similar white oak. Not a lot to go on there. I think the branching looks most like an oak.

Although the shoots at the bottom look like Tilia as well......

[/ QUOTE ]

Very observant B'Bull, Tilia is exactly what it is.

The sapling looks like a Pistachio (Pistacia vera), but the photo of the tree is huge and I don't think they get that big??
BB: Why is it your favorite?

-Diane-

EZ,
I think it is fun just to guess - right or wrong.
Remember it's the spirit-of-the-play that counts.
And you may be right on this one!! We haven't seen a picture of its fall foliage which is beautiful and would give its identity away!

[ QUOTE ]

No fall foliage, remember this tree grows near the equator.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yea, I remembered that after I posted.

How about Myristica fragrans(Nutmeg) ?

BB: I've got Scottish Highland blood in me so I just keep trying...and trying...

The sapling looks like Rhus typhina or Ailanthus altissima, the pinnate leaf looks like a Wing Nut of some kind, the seed like Pistachios, and the main pic of the tree looks like a big Magnolia!! I'm totally lost, definatley gonna need more clues please.

[ QUOTE ]
Alright heres a MAJOR clue.

The wood is rot resistant and VERY aromatic. The reason it is one of my favorite trees, is because it protects one of my favorite hobbies!

[/ QUOTE ]

Black walnut and..growing herb is one of your hobbies?

Ok this should be an easy one so, although it's not from a distance, there's not a lot to go on.
