Treezybreez, you must be using the laser-magnifying ultraviolet lens that I have.

The tree is B. lenta, and the broken piece in the foreground is S. reticulata.

How did you get that???

You just made my day Tom.

I take this game very seriously.

I have a doozy in mind, but I need to go take a picture of it first. I have only seen two of them in my aria. now that I have sparked some curiosity, I will say goodnight.

Tom that tree looks topped in two different era's. Being birch I'm thinking ice storms did the dirty. What do you think?

I really do like the tree the "about to cut down" comment was just a joke.

B. lenta develop open crowns like that, much different from other birches, so although I think it's shape is a result of it's environment, I think this is normal for one this size... It's about 28" DBH X about 50' tall.

I have never identified a tree with such a wide canopy to be birch. I would like to track one of these down. I'm figuring it would be a rare find. I do like birch and better yet I like to find black birch in my wood pile.
