Trees from a distance

Sorry Tom. Wasn't razzing you. Haven't been following this thread for a while. I thought it might have been a Quercus at first glace but couldn't see any fissures in the bark so thought Fagus.
I think I have it this time though. Is it Quercus robur?

It's all good Tom. I was just confused and thought I missed something.
I drove by this tree in Algonquin Park last summer and thought it would be a good candidate for this thread.

All really good guesses. For some strange reason this tree doesn't have it's traditional form.
It's funny how it looks like a hot air balloon and it's so dense.
Tom is on the right track.

I believe it's just U. americana. I don't believe there is a specific cultivar attached to it. As far as I know it wasn't planted since Algonquin Park isn't known for it's planting program and if something were to be planted it would have been native stock.
Maybe I'm wrong and some tourist did some guerrilla planting 30-40 years ago? It's not likely, but could explain why the tree has the dense balloon shaped form.
Next time I'm in the area I'm going to do a little more in depth investigating.
You got it Tom.
