though...

I didn't realize that is how this worked. I only coped on to this thread today and started on the last page. Ok, I have a pic of a tree which is straight from the nursery. The customer
didn't want it so now it belongs to me. It has beautiful fall foliage but this year the leaves are falling off early because of drought conditions.

Prunus virginiana

wo wo wo wait a minute.

Sorry Trees Please, your telling me that isn't a black cherry? Prunus serotina?

That bark looks way to rough and flakey for choke cherry to me.

Don't get offended, I've disagreed with many posters before.

Please review pictures and research if you have the slightest hint it might not be right.

Anyone elses thoughts?

Like I said, I've disagreed before.

Tom and Robinia. King and Prince; what do you think?

acer griseum?

Bad Dan, bad!

You are kinda of a veteran. Bad Dan Bad!

And adkpk guy, that's an asian acer, bad on you too!

Trying to do native US species for a few pages I think.

Get some new blood in here.

Us veterans are currently guessing silently and reward ourselves in silent for a while.

But I got that cherry wrong if it's choke!

btw, good for you MattyD for recognizing it! I've pushed that one to you twice in the landscape in the last two weeks, right?

Sorry, but I am not confident in the ID of that being a choke cherry no matter what web site it came from.

Could I see the website so I can get to the bottom of this? and maybe correct the website or else decide to believe it?

sorry for all the stink, but something is not right.

and another mystery...

Why did you say prunus virginiana ADKPK?

No one would say choke cherry to that picture.

you just picked a prunus specie or what?

know this website this tree is from?

I was pretty sure JeffL had it with serotina, I've never seen a virginiana that big. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, though.

I do believe you are in a Black Cherry (P. serotina), not a Chokecherry (P. virginiana).

Chokecherry is generally a multi stemmed short tree or shrub, rarely more than 20 or 30 feet tall, whereas Black cherry is a tree, sometimes reaching sizeable dimensions.
