Hamamelis x intermedia 'Diane' or 'Ruby Glow'

( I never noticed how much those buds look like magnolia!! )

( BTW: I'm positive I saw a purple-leaved Honey Locust the other day. Have I been living under a rock or is that indeed something new under the sun??)

Is yours a baby wingnut, Tom?

The tree I had posted in the other id thread is a caucasian wingnut, Pterocarya fraxinifolia. Found it on a pretty good online tree data base. Got the idea from another thread about an insect data base, http://www.rogerstreesandshrubs.com/. My new encyclopedia confirmed it with a nice drawing that looks just like the flower/seed in my photo. 13 leaflets.

The bark looks like a eucalyptus. I'll say E. globulus because it's the most common.

Cool photo! I'm land-bound and never see this perspective.

FYI,Salix alba and fragilis easily cross breed. The willow I posted could be a cross. I went with alba because of the leaf length but when I look at pictures of the bark of fragilis I'm not sure. Also, pinus rigida and echinata are known to cross in the wild.

Tom and William,
See the attachment. I thought you guys would like this- probably the best willow key I've ever come across.

William, happy birthday!
