Trees from a distance

I think I see some opposite twigs in the sky, especially on the left side of the crown.

I think it's an acer, but does not look familiar.

I wonder is the bumps on the limbs are from old Christmas lights or something, the other tree(s) have them too. and since it's along a driveway.

I'm just going to say Acer negundo, even though the bark and trunk don't look like it to me.

Those are some pretty nice drystone walls. I sent my father a copy of the picture. He is a waller here in Canada and heads up the DSWAC:

Those aren't Dan Snow walls by any chance?

--------------------

I'll guess Catalpa and then quit.

Those stone walls are very old for the most part... Tiverton RI is mostly old farmland, and those are original property lines from the 17 & 1800's.

The tree is not a Catalpa... I'll post a better pic a little later.

It's not 'Arborists from a distance,' Ted. If it were, I'd say that looks alot like Peter Tork in a Pittsburgh Pirates hat. But he's not an arborist.

You know a lot of weird stuff.

Not an Ulmus. And Ted, I'm sorry I said you look like Peter Tork. You look more like somebody else, but I can't think of who it is right now.

I have to fly, but I'll post a better pic later, around 9 or so.

OK, here's a closer pic. What has been ascertained so far is that this tree is NOT a:

Quercus
Acer
Ulmus
Aesculus
Juglans
Catalpa

?

(PS - I just looked at the new pic... I think someone's going to get it pretty quickly now.)

Okay, so it's a Juglans...

Doesn't look like black walnut, not english walnut (I hope anyway) so right now I'm going with Juglans cinerea (butternut.

but... I've never seen a chinese wignut and since the name has "carya" within the genus name, perhaps it resembles hickories and therefor might have twigs similar to walnut/hickories too. I couldn't find a picture of twigs on the internet of the chinese wingnut... gotta go to work now...
