no, the smiley face is not the right answer either; you are still wrong Tom.

Couldn't you say that I'm 'not correct?' 'Wrong' seems so negative and accusatory.

I know

that's why I said it that way. You need a little negative to bring your greatness down a little

only a few hours left.....

so... maybe I've give a little bit of clue.

in the trunk picture, see the twigs on the ground in front of the main stump, that twig came from that tree. kinda stout.

in the distant picture, see something stuck up in near the tip on one or two twig tips? this is not a dried leaf, not something stuck or blown into this tree, it is attached and this is part of this tree and would give it away if you saw it up close.

the trunk bark; the rough bumps and such.... this is abnormal and this is what is likely throwing you all off. The trunk picture is likely hurting your ID skills

so much so, that i took other pictures of the tree to prove what it really is when I tell the answer because you probably won't believe me.

Why did I give any clues

Well, i already have your address, he comes another 40.

you deserve it for getting on the buzz before the 7:30 deadline to check.

I thought many of peoples guesses were very good, I thought the Paulownia was the closest in my opinion, then the catalpa.

excellent job all, I'm so proud of you all.

Tom, can you climb as well as you ID? If so.... I'd like you to work with us! Maybe even run an office for us!

Wow, so I was wrong with the Coffeetree guess... I started doubting myself as the deadline approached. That white milky stuff on the bark is a common trait with Ailanthus, but the 'thing' in the crown made me think it was G. dioicus.

Right now I have a day job and a side biz, so I'm not available. I do almost all of my own climbing so I guess I'm good enough.

As it is, I'm pretty well entrenched with my own work up here. Thanks for the job offer, though!
