Trees from a distance

i agree with you but i went to a lecture on these trees and they were not allowed to tell us the exact locations because there had been vandelism on other ancient trees, people are ignorant and i would hope also that this could never happen but it does. they better hope none of us catch them!
 
The species has been a bit of a running joke in this thread for a while now.

I don't have any good pics available, so it's an open table again.

There's about a three mile loop trail that goes near the Methuselah Tree, but they don't tell you exactly where it is. That's reasonable, too many people might just love it to death. Soil compaction and souvenir seeking are real dangers to a tree in such a harsh environment, and that's not even considering vandals and misguided scientists.

There was an even older tree elsewhere, almost 5000 years old. In 1964 it was cut down so a researcher could examine the rings. Several interpretations of the story and resulting controversy are here. http://www.terrain.org/essays/14/cohen.htm (More detail than I had patience for.)

If you're even in Eastern California or Western Nevada, you should be sure to visit the bristlecones. They're amazing!
