Tree trimmer killed in 40 foot fall

[ QUOTE ]
Don't forget about young Nicholas here fellas, a death is a death. If we really care we'll all feel a little responsible for this one. Really look at the keywords of the article: "40 foot ladder", "pole saw", "power line"; aren't these the guys we're all trying to teach, instead of inet bickering and butt-slapping each other?

I hope there's some angels with those kiddos, impossible to replace a DADDY. I'll throw down on that "fund", say when and where.

Nicely stated Eric, Thank You.

Yes this is a very sad outcome.

But, can I ask a couple of questions?

Should the utility company have been recommended to come out to clear the lines?

Should the private tree contractor have differed the work to the utility company?

It's a shame when ANY tree brother is killed, be he a parent or not, a climber, a groundman, or a bucket op. =(

It's been a good September, think I'll help out.

Really a tragedy and I feel with the family. However, what we can learn from this is that a proper risk assessment would have made it clear that the powerline was a hazard that needed extra attention, either should the power been shut down or another route of access away from the line been chosen. According to our HS regulations using a ladder for access isn´t an issue.
