Yea..... I got to be honest, if you really think that in some way or form that this site is not "social media" you are kidding yourself or trying to feel that this is better then something its not. This site was around prior to Facebook and twitter sure... but honestly it was just ahead of the curve. As for individuals calling out a company for having what they view as poor business practice in one area or another is "life" as well. If you as a business cant take people being honest about your service when it's not positive and full of sunshine then close your doors. As much as the customer wont always like the service or will have problems and will be forced to deal with it so will the company when they are called out on it. I get that Sherrill is a paying customer to this site but that does not make them a paying customer to those that make this site what it is and has always been. Sharing of information goes both good and bad and both have to be put out there without a restriction, unless you plan on curbing when people are way to "happy" about something as well? Maybe Sherrill should take the comments and actually give them some thought rather then seemingly ignoring them and jack some more prices up or have poor quality gear go out with no care to right the issue when presented with it.
The moment you silence a truth is the moment people will turn on you. Just be honest and allow people to speak, even when you don't agree. It's the only way to move forward.
I moved this thread to this forum because it is a little detached from the positive feel within the rest of the site. I mean, I see nothing but comraderie and support amongst our great community everywhere I turn and then run into this thread and it kills it. If you guys want continue to have discussions saturated with negativity then this forum is the only place I can see doing it.
Anyone can start a Conversation with
Mark Chisholm
Greg Manning
Tom Dunlap
If you have anything to talk about...content, technical issues, etc
The 'rules' here are pretty lax. We do expect civility.
Would you have the same conversation here that you would face to face? Who would you NOT want to be around for the conversation?
Speaking up and adding something to a conversation is not only alright it's hoped for. It's just when it turns into somewhat of a back and forth complaint session with no forward motion or when things turn less professional that I don't want to let linger. Sharing opinions is great and that's what this site is for. Let's just keep it constructive and respectful.Actually yes I would personally speaking. Imagine a world that does not want accountability... if someone’s feelings are hurt when someone voices their displeasure(s) with a service why is it then the person that has payed for a services fault (or them being in the wrong) when voicing it. If these matters can not be spoken about here make the site private and by invite only and start over again. I’m sure it would be successful but less would be accomplished in the end. It may do some of us well to stop and think about how far our industry has come in the past 20 years in comparison to our counter part climbing industries. While they have just about halted and crippled themselves with evolution due to silencing workers through boards and over loading of regulations we have not. Forums like this is one of the reasons we have come so far in a VERY SHORT amount of time. I hope I am wrong but censoring of conversations meant to draw attention to an issue that has built up is a sign to an ending of a run we all benefited from for so long. When I say “all” that means workers in the field, manufacturers, and retailers alike.
If my opinion here on this is not enjoyed or agreed with then remove me from the site. It’s a great place to be part of but as far as I am concerned I have earned my right to speak in this industry and don’t for a moment think I should stay silent when something is not right.
Appreciate that!Fairfield, I would hope you understand that Tom, Mark and Greg's comments were not a move towards censorship but instead a reminder to be civil and lose the snide and mudslinging remarks.
The feelings toward meat chicken are quite mutual here I can assure you.sorry Greg, around here, ohio state is rarely mentioned without expletives even around babies.
