tracking employee certifications/re-ups

Background: I work at a very large county forest preserve. We have hundreds of employees, loads of volunteers, and an endless rotation of interns coming through the doors. I want a better way to track everyone's training with info like: date they took the training, what the training was, when they are due to renew/retest etc. If it was in-house training I want to know who proctored the session.

we have lots of certified arborists, pesticide applicators/operators, chainsaw certifications, advanced chainsaw certifications, defensive driving, first aid, cpr, and a slew of others i can't think of right now.

We have an excel spread sheet right now but I want something better. I would like a program that you can set to send an email to an individual say 3 months before their renewal date is due. I just want this bookeeping to be smoother. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Hmmm.. podio seems to be project mgt specific. Try googling certification tracking software. There's a lot out there that are specific to this coupled with education and training. If you do inhouse training then it could help with managing that as well.

Is podio a web based only program or can it also be used minus web access?

This is a non-web solution, though I cannot find any review information on any of the tracking software programs I found.

Another software company noted that it did not use email notifications for alerting you if someone's re-certification is coming up for renewal because they expect you to go look up the information in the database every week. So I won't even suggest them (what a bunch of maroons, as Bugs Bunny would say!)

A number of programs seem to combine tracking with delivery of training modules so you might want to check to see if you're paying for something you don't need.

I was looking at ArborSoftworx at New England Grows 2014 yesterday and note that they can manage staff certifications, licenses and such as well as all the other things the software does for business management. I just can't say if there's an email alert option.
