Todays morning job

Mark, The felling is what I felt could have been better. The notch was a bit deep and I would prefer the hingh not to brake utill the stick or tree has hit the ground. That stick had a bit of back and side lean (just a little) any way the hinge broke and missed the logs on the ground which created a little more turf damage than we had planned for. By the way I have been meaning to ask you about those really shady Oaks in the back yark. Did you rig then and or piece them out?

I didn't even use a rope in them. One of my guys asked if I wanted the winch and I said that if he put it on this tree I'd smack 'em! /forum/images/graemlins/bangtard.gif

Trees like those are too risky to me. I'd imagine a peice being held when it shouldn't, crash into the tree and the top break out onto the house or worse. There weren't many cuts that were over anything to worry about, so I made up my mind to just "let 'er fly".

Sometimes I'll keep myself in check by only using a 1/2" line or less so that I won't be able to take a big peice even if I wanted to. Here's something that I tell my trainees- Before you make a risky cut, imagine what might go wrong and how you'll feel when someone under you gets hurt or worse because of a risk you took. Maybe you're risking more for the other members of the crew than for yourself. That's not fair to them.

Re: Todays Afternoon job

Did the cable slack once you got some wieght off? Got to love the winch for jobs like that right. If I see one more bucket job I'm going to start to make fun.

Re: Todays Afternoon job

You drinking Todd? What cable? The only thing in that tree was two ropes I used to lower it.

Make fun all you want, I give you permission. We're tight! But, I'll bucket any tree that it makes sense to, especially one like this that I didn't start until 3:00!.

Re: Todays Afternoon job

I was looking at the photo at 5:00 am.Thought I saw a cable. Having good equipment does rock. I personally have very little expereince operating bucket trucks. Since I hurt my back the posture of the operator reaching and what not hurts me. We have 3 Aerial lifts that work every day all day. We have been interested in a new one maybe an elevator? I'm always looking for some cool climbing gear if looking to get rid of some. /forum/images/graemlins/love.gif /forum/images/graemlins/love.gif /forum/images/graemlins/love.gif
