Today....

Got to have a little fun mudbogging in an 86’ JLG lift today, and set up a speedline to zip this Oak out of the back yard down over the neighbor’s fence out to the street.

Did my first "serious" removal. Norway maple with a lead going way out over garage. Everything went well... except one branch slipped out of the half hitch and running bowline. Didn't space them apart enough for the wet smooth bark. Do think that it wasn't let to run enough but if i did my part better the gutter wouldn't have been damaged. Lesson learned the hard way.

I had a little bit of Mahogany and a pile of Western Red Cedar that I've been drying for 21 years... yeah, I know. You'd think a guy would have better things to do.

My father-in-law wanted a step stool for his short wife, so I made them this...

Legs are splayed 10 degrees, joinery is all with Birch dowels and TiteBond III glue.

I posted some pictures of this site a little while ago, but came back the other day to install a Tree-Guard support in the big co-dom cedar with the treehouse. See, I do more than just kill firs! :p The peacock was in the tree I was about to climb (instead of standing on the hood of my truck like last time....) and honestly I was afraid it would attack me or poop on me, but luckily it flew away as I was setting up.

I would think the issue might have been the "setting" of each. I always see the benefit in taking an extra second to spin each hitch to be locked in before they take up the slack.

Good couple of days making progress at home. Slowly making my way through re-roofing my 1896 home with cedar shingles. Lots of dormers and rooflines make for slow going, especially working alone. I was glad to have some big American Elm rounds leftover from a removal to shim up 3 of my 4 scaffold feet to work around the damn stairs. Also made a raised bed container for my wife from E. Red Cedar, salvaged 2x lumber and a tarp scrap I held onto that was just the right size. My son decided he prefers the wheelbarrow to a chair, if you look close you can see him under the crabapple.
