Today....

Airfield work today. Removing a few trees to widen the approach/departure of one strip, then removing overhanging firs from a hanger. Spoke with Altec yesterday, working on arranging a mobile mechanic to come out and do an inspection/repairs/certification of the boom. Right now still just using it in my own 'yard' to test it out and see what needs attention.

Ooo I really like the trunk protectors , definitely putting that idea away for later. What’s that on your mini?
Take a round turn around each branch and use one strap high and one strap low.

Do you mean the wooden platform on the operator's platform?

My employee are shorter than me. It improves visibility for everyone.

@southsoundtree
Are you pulling a red trailer with your mini?

Some easy pear trees today, we’ve had a few days of cool weather that’s been awesome

I am towing with the BMG hitch. I wouldn't take a heavy (dump) trailer down there or my chipper.

We had the trailer 100% as right at the work zone as possible for easy loading, no extra dragging.

These were dead/dying so almost no needle or moisture weight.

I speedlined 5 limbs, lowered some, dropped the rest. If not for that access, it would have been a lot of uphill dragging and/ or speedlining.

One of my former competitors used to employ my employee. They shut down tree work after ironing-up/ advertising a lot/ expanding. Now the bid just consults. Idk why.
They only had chip trucks and chipper. My employee says that created more work at times.

Our access can be easy or trouble/ terrible.

I like versatility (including a couple light weight trailers to go with my 25' long chip truck).

2-3 grabs with the BMG or one grab with my neighbor's log loader or lift the whole trailer to empty onto a burn pile if 'chainsaw chipped' (comical!! ).

Got a little help from my bud with his saw truck to knock out this very compromised Norway Maple today. Slingin to finish strong. Previous pick was over 4k worth of wood from the opposite codominant side. Had to wedge the final trunk pick because it was literally 2 halves all the way to the base. I can hardly believe this thing didn’t fail on the client’s home. You ever feel like you got to something just in time?
EDIT: If you didn’t already notice by my shirt in the photo, It began raining hard once I had to get in the saddle. Myself and the crane op were drenched within a couple minutes. So it goes.

Must be a regular thing, what with all that beautiful green everywhere. I do miss the green everywhere.

You know, my wife and I teach our kids about gratitude, so I can draw from that lesson in relation to your current surroundings. In that light, we’re grateful. We still have challenges that seem insurmountable with invasive stuff everywhere.

Fragmentation of canopy leads to edges where invasives thrive. We now have fragmented fragments of previous fragments. If enough people really cared, I wouldn’t mind a lifelong career of restoration.

The grass is always greener….er, there’s always grass on the other side.

I have noticed this year that even though we have had periods of hot and dry (humidity 27 to 34%), we have received good rains at just the right time. Trees and other Vegetation is remaining lush and green when it should begin to start loosing it's lushness(if that is a word) as the end of the growing season approaches. First time in a long ittime I have noticed this.
