Today....

Ok, this wasn't really today, but I'll still post it.
I was staying with a family friend in the St. Louis area, and she had a large oak, a sweet gum and a small maple in the backyard, that desperatly needed deadwooding, especially with the proximity to the house and the storms going on. My problem was that I only had 50' of 3/8" tenex tec and a webbing sling as a harness. I did have some biners and other hardware, including a ropewrench. I think I mastered that challenge pretty well.View attachment 61075View attachment 61076View attachment 61077View attachment 61078
Oops. I'm glad that was my old corona saw, that's pretty dull by now, not my sharp siky...
Is this kit you bring when travelling, just in case you need a climb? I like it...with that Tenex id probably like a pulley or rings on my FS... Looks light. Very good.

Haha, no, most of it was just stuff I bought on treestuff and from @yoyoman.
I really didn't feel that comfortable with the blakes hitch on tenex on descent, that's why I threw the wrench above it, which gave me perfect friction actually. On the long descent I threw the ring underneath the hitch too.
If I were to make a travel kit, I'd probably use 8 or 9mm dynamic or static line, and a guide atc, some biners and accessory cord for prussic, footloop and rappel backup. The reason for the guide atc over a grigri is the versatility, being able to do a double line rappel, not just for tree climbing. In fact, I wish I had that stuff with me, it would allow me to do some canyoning in Zion, where I'll be in a couple of days. I don't think 50' of tenex are a good choice for that...

Well, you should have said it was sheep leather.... can I have one? It doesn't have to be made into a saddle... could just be the whole sheep...

...did some milling today.

Yeah, rub it in, buddy. I milled some little White Poplar (Aspen) logs on my bandsaw in the basement. Like, 8" diameter, 2' long. Now, I feel like that hamster standing in the horse barn while the horses talk about the size of their... well, you know what I mean.

Just plan on buying a swing blade mill. That's what I'm doing.
I've been really disgruntled about cutting some really nice oak logs into firewood lengths recently.
