Tie into tree,Tie into crane? That is the question

Re: Tie into tree,Tie into crane? That is the ques

Wow, you guys sure stayed up late Buzzing on this thread, but we have strayed from Royce's original question.

For my part, let me say that I am NOT the fastest, or best climber out there and don't care to be. At 43 years of age with many old injuries cropping up I don't care to be the best out there. My goal is to stay healthy and keep my groundworker safe.

I was not trying to put anyone down when I posted my comments earlier. I like to try to learn something from everyone here on the Buzz. When I posted my comments I was honestly stating what I saw while working with BostonBull and his crane crew for a week.

I don't know how X's or Hollies crane crew's work but I did see Bull's fast, proficient and safe crew work and I say if he is willing to have you guys come up here and work with him, TAKE him up on his offer. You will have a great time working here and Bull and his family are great hosts.

Thanks again for all your help Bull. Say Hi to the gang down at Mayer's for me too.

now we're getting along!! LOL

Hey Bull, not to throw a wrench in the monkey, but my day rate as a photographer is normally $1200. I'll fly out on my dime, and bring Cowboy Dave with me. You'll get the best in the west for $1200.

He's so fast, you'll be done before you start....

Re: Tie into tree,Tie into crane? That is the ques

looks like we have X coming and Holly soon. all within the next few weeks.

Roger come on out brother, I like you and wouldnt mind meeting you guys.

Re: Tie into tree,Tie into crane? That is the ques

Wish I could, Bull....your operation is top notch, no doubt. There's no one in my area equipped as you guys are! But, we do have a fair bit or work these days, so breaking away would be tough.

I'm tempted, though!

Dave, however, subs for various companies...and, as it's still slow around here for many outfits, he has been reduced to taking $250 a day from one outfit, who seems to bid low. Plus, I'm climbing more of late, and have another good young climber, so haven't been using Dave much. He is the best production guy I've ever worked with....though I have little doubt that Holly, olddirty, X, and a few others are in his league or better. Of course, ya'll might not mind seeing my broken down 61 yr old bod in action...lolol.

I'm small time...no bucket truck, and only use cranes when needed. Someday, I may expand a bit, and get a bucket or a Spider....but 90% of our work would not be helped much if a bucket were available.

You know all I can say about this, is I'm the only one to put picture and detail to this call out.

And the rest say ahhhhhhhhhh.

[/ QUOTE ]

I will pick out some jobs and try to remember and post the details then.

to get the thread back to crane/tree work topic, if we want to turn it back that way.

I guess if we are going to fight anymore, maybe we could take that over to the treefree zone.

Bull, let me know which days you guys are getting together and I'll come down on my own time and dime.

Would be great to meet some new Buzzers!

Re: Tie into tree,Tie into crane? That is the ques

Utterly amazing.

Royce had the opportunity to talk to 3 very experienced crane operators today. All said that 1) they werent the greatest, 2)they didnt want to be the greatest, 3)all agreed that tieing into the crane while loaded was not the way they would perfer to do things. Last resort if all other options were exhausted.

Please remember this is but only on source. There are mnay additional avenues to research to get your true groove.

Does that mean delete some or stop calling you names on my PM's?

Yeah, from the sidelines, and the female point of view (at least mine) is "Men & Boys and the size of their Toys"

Re: Tie into tree,Tie into crane? That is the ques

gotta question for you chest pounders, Holly, dirty, and Bull (who has more quiet confidence): it's all about speed and retying in...so do you have spliced eyes in your climb lines, or do you tie and untie knots?

Just wondering.

I'm a knot guy, looking to convert.

Re: Tie into tree,Tie into crane? That is the ques

Splice both ends. Try to fit it to the crane you use 100 120 or 150. Till the ground guys cut your rope into 2 shorter ones. Knots are a pain in the arse, Most time onlt knot used is the pursik. Other than that it's the spiderjack. Like I said knots suck, and are for the true cavemen.

You know the real down fall to this? Is when, Bull said put up or shut up. His mentor fell out of the race. Figures, most of those type are all BS anyways. When a real one meets them they shot their pants.

Not my mentor, just my crazy, above average sized human being, of a buddy. My mentor is the Redhead

Re: Tie into tree,Tie into crane? That is the ques

I really don't have time to be finding and resizing photos and posting them, but I will.

After this, I'm staying away from the buzz for a while in the summer like I should. If I start posting on the buzz, I get sucked in and before I know it, I'm spending a lot of time on it and have to keep responding and such....

(Well, except if I can get a computer while on vacation, I'll be stoping in.)

--------------------------

Okay, here is number one tree.

Good size Red Oak removal.

3 ground men.
1 crane operator
1 climber, me.

bandit 1890 chipper (18" capacity)
35 ton stick crane.
29 metric tonne k-boom crane, with flatbed log body.
asv 4810 skid steer with implemax 360 rotating grapple.
40 yard chip box
10 yard ford f550 truck

Tree taken apart with 35 ton stick crane and a little with the k-boom too.

k-boom used for tie in point and log loading.

We filled the 40 yd container, so probably was 38 cub yards there and one f550. total chips 48 cu. yds I think.

One load of firewood junk logs. One load of 3 mill logs.

Tree done in one day, except 3 logs were hauled on second day and stump ground out on second day and grindings scouped up and topsoil and seeded.

I looked up price of that tree, $3265.

Oh, by the way, I've never done more than over $5000 a day I don't think, on tree removals. Mayer blows me away on $15,000+ a day. That's amazing for one crew to do that!
