This is the Akimbo

I think I'm going to self induce a coma until they ship.
Someone wake me when it happens.
@JMerritt

Back in October 22, 2015 I posted I wanted an Akimbo. Being the impatient person I am I did just that and self induced a coma until they shipped in a few months........... only to awaken over THREE YEARS later! (but consider this time well spent).

So to all of you I would take this as a good sign that soon it will be shipped!

Glad to be back and see all the usual suspects are still kicking, what did I miss?

The decline of societal norms.
Our nation is now run by a psychopathic dictator called Putin and his Orange Puppet who has two minions name Eric and Junior.
Windows 10 release.
The end of privacy.
The Markets has crashed.
Severe weather conditions including major flooding, sea level rising at an alarming rate, way too many and huge forest fires, and major volcano eruptions.
Invasion on our southern boarder by desperate people fleeing South America.
A ton of famous people died.
A bunch of new iPhones were released with one that costs $1000.
A whole generation of young people are suffering from a condition known as Micro Aggression.
The Dems won back the House and the Government has been shutdown.

And a bunch of other less important crap.

Other than that the Akimbo has been released so things are swell. :)

The Akimbo hasn't been released yet. A design was unveiled at TCIA but that's about all RE has given us. They'll keep quiet as they have all along until the time is right...

What was presented at TCIA and made available for pre-order that day with an ETA of January 2019 (you know a few days from now) was just "A design"?
This could be interpreted as (not the final version), and maybe (not ready to ship).
Concerning. :raro2:

Given the content of the user manual I'd say it's pretty certain the TCIA design is what will be released.

But apart from a few social media posts and the content on the supplier websites, there has been very little information provided by RE. So who really knows what January will bring? Maybe Akimbos for everyone?

Akimbo!!!!!

Does anyone know the actual weight limit for the Akimbo?

@sparker2289; Welcome to the TreeBuzz forum! I think you are going to like it here! Congratulations on making your first post!

In post number 1909 above, @John@TreeXP provided a link to the owner's manual for the Akimbo that is hosted by the Wesspur web site. Within that PDF document are the specs for the Akimbo as stated by @Tuebor above. The owner's manual is free to look at, and free to download. I think it is about 16 pages long, if I'm not mistaken. There is usually a symbol at the top right of any PDF that allows you to download the document to your hard drive. I hope this helps. Thanks for signing up to be a member here on the TreeBuzz forum!

I'm 280lbs without my gear. Would that be pushing it too far?

"I'm 280lbs without my gear. Would that be pushing it too far?"

@sparker2289; This is a great question, and one that a bunch of people are going to want an answer for. In my mind, you are obviously going to bust through their upper limit as soon as you put on any sort of climbing gear. Like a lot of things, though, people push products past the limits that are published on paper, and with smart use, never have an issue.

I think this is a question best answered by @JMerritt. Also, I have a vague recollection that @Magnum783 might have been involved in the development of the Akimbo, and he is one of the heavier climbers that posts on this forum. Maybe he can give some insights into how the Akimbo acts with a person of his size, and also what his favorite configuration of rope and hardware is.

Any help, anyone? Thanks in advance.

Tim

I find the load rating interesting!? So is the akimbo only approved for lines listed in the instructions? I understand the complexity of needing to put something down, but I find the list somewhat confusing. Fuzzed rope vrs new will have quite a bit of variation, what about Samson static? Or the plethora of other unlisted climbing lines? If I manage to kill myself using a unlisted line is it considered a misuse?

How were these loads on the specific lines tested?
And what is this certification?AECB6185-ACC0-4D1E-A5B9-BAEEF86DBA65.webp

So based on the manual I can’t use any of my ropes..
Yale Aztec (I know same rope, but not specifically listed)
Tachyon (seriously not on the list?!)
Kernmaster
Velocity (again really?!)
Samson 16 strand..

Guess I’m not a cool kid when it comes to ropes
