This is the Akimbo

I’ve been seeing a few posts on fb about this same issue. Some have added 3 to 1 oil while others have returned to rock for a new one
I did the 3-in-1 oil on areas making contact between the control arms and the bollard pin. Worked with it for about 5-10 minutes and now it opens and closes very smooth.
I had contacted RE and they were quick to reply, I let them know what I did and that it was all good.
While on the RE site I took the time to set up an account and registered the Akimbo.

Super nice set up. Let me know how it works with the xstatic. I have that as well. Happy shenanigans!

I got to try out the Akimbo yesterday with the xstatic, this is the first time with both so I don't have any comparison. But my thoughts are it works amazing with my knee and foot acenders, they just move right up from the start, none of that awkwardness feeding them through at first. The Akimbo tended perfectly up the rope with no issues. Going down it grabbed perfectly, maybe TOO perfect, when it grabs it grabs with zero hesitation and it hurts, lol, there is zero stretch with this rope ( I don't want it too) but I wish it would slip some (I tried several settings). This might be do in part because of the Akimbo, the solid core of the rope, the newness of both, since I don't have any comparison I don't know. I'm used to bombing out of trees with my RR, if I tried it with this setup I think my top half would separate from my bottom half.

Oh and I think steel cable ties knots better than the xstatic. But of course with rope when you gain in some areas you lose in others.

I think I'm going to climb a bit more with the Akimbo before I give any opinion of it.

It’s grabby at first. Run up a ladder and bomb to the ground a few times will help break it in.

Got a chance to use the Akimbo yesterday with a brand new hank of New England dragon fly and all I can say is...Wow. This was my first real work climb on a mechanical device. Nothing crazy just some storm damage to some limbs and deadwooding. I must admit that I wish I had made the move sooner. I still intend on using my rope wrench and hitches, but this thing is so buttery smooth and the friction is consistant. Never any binding or inconsistency. I am still learning the release points and there was one time I was just repelling slowly and I pulled down a little to hard and dropped a couple feet very rapidly...however, hands came off and it grapped. Not a violent shocking stop, no jarring I was just no longer moving.

The rope was also a great pairing for the Akimbo. I am 185 lbs and found that there was a lot less rope compression/flattening then my poison hyvee. I don't remeber my exact settings, but it was somewhere in the middle and I have much more room to experiment with settings. On the hyvee I had to use maximum friction settings in order to achieve no creeping. Also my ascenders ran super smooth and tended much better. All in all 2 thumbs way up for the Akimbo and dragonfly. Great pairing20190301_214715.webp

Got it open, it could be operator error but it appears the upper and lower control arms contact the bollard pins very tight.

Mine was doing it too. Stuck closed and when open, snagging a little when trying to close it. I put a little oil at every moving part, and opened and closed it over and over. Move the bollards to different positions and open and close it some more while watching TV. Kinda like playing with a fidget spinner.
All good now, very smooth and easy to open and close.
