The Hobart Oak: How far would YOU go?

Funny thing that story got mentioned...

I was away for a couple of weeks working at an outage. There were a couple of days where scheduling wasn't optimal so we were relegated to "looking busy" as much as possible. After a rather tedious day of that, there were several of us in a van taking a long trip around the site. A young guy was driving and I had to remind him to slow down a little so as to eat up a few more minutes. The story of the two bulls came up then.

There were two bulls, an older one and a younger one, standing on a hilltop. The younger one saw a bunch of cows down in the valley and suggested to the elder that they run down and "have" one of the cows. The elder suggested they walk down and "have" them all.

So we get back to the job trailer and park about 30 yards from it. I suggested we walk over and talk to the boss. The kid driving said "let's drive over and talk to 'em all". I'm still laughing about that one!

Thanks so much for your choice of site software, Mark. It's been hard work getting caught up, but at least I've been able to do it incrementally and at my leisure. Some of the other forum software packages would require it be done in one sitting else indication of new posts yet unseen be forever lost.

Thanks Glens, Too often we rush thru the day to get estimates done forgetting that the call is a "sales" call not an estimate call. Unless the client is an expert such as yourself then it is incumbent on the arborist/salesperson making the call to educate the client of the possibilities and make recommendations. Act as a professional and clients will see you as such not as someone trying to make a big buck or milking them....

Milk ropes not clients......;-)

Glen, thanks for the reboot. I had forgotten about that story. And you're very welcome regarding the software. /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks Mark, I just find skilled trades are too often afraid to ask for what the work is worth. Can always find some reason to justify a lower price vs. gaining a prospective client's confidence...
