Are there any buzzers from the houston area who would like to compete.I dont think ive ever seen any climbers ever compete from that area(strange its the largest city in the state you would figure there be some good climbers). Also heard there might be some cash prizes this year.Any women climbers want to compete, anybody?

I hope we start to see some interest from Houston, too. I'm sure there must be some good arborists there, but when I visit the MIL I mostly see the aftermath of hackers. It's a consumer population that needs to be educated--my impression is that everyone is used to paying yard man rates for tree work.

Please, someone in helltown, prove me wrong!

The Texas tcc will be April 20th & 21st at Bob Woodruff park in Plano.I posted a later date before but it changed to this date and location. You still coming Rich?

You bet Jimmy. I just need to figure out what day I can get there. Hopefully in time to help set up. I am really looking forward to seeing you guys.

A little over a month away til the comp anybody gettin stoked yet.I would be but im just to tired from working everyday.Nathan are you competing, how about Jim(dunlap) and keith babberney?Theres also an aerial rescue seminar on the 19th that will qualify you to take the tree climbers cert exam.I think you'll need cpr and first aid training also.Suppose to be some of the best trees ever at a texas comp.

Great trees in Plano??? Err uhhh....ok.

I look forward to seeing them as I will be there!!!

Reminds me, I got the check signed, in an envelope, maybe I should mail it???

I have been training a little to be ready. Still have lots to do as I need to change to my new saddle. I doubt ole trusty will pass muster.

Yes, these are big trees for the area. Better pack a 150 or 200 foot rope. My 125s dangle in the air in several of the suitable access points and then its another 40 or so feet for better exploration.

Kevin Bassett turned a bowl from a limb that came out of a "bicentennial" tree some 50 feet from the ground... there are well over 200 growth rings.

I'm not competing this year. A few personal issues are keeping me from training. Won't keep me from helping out.

Sorry to hear your not competing Jim,i might not be as well.I was so pumped after watching the southern tcc that i came home and lifted weights like crazy.Well i think i may have wrecked my left shoulder, ive got a Doctors appointment at 9:30 in the morning maybe do an mri we will see.Im not worried all in Gods hands i'll be competing or rootin my friends on regardless.

Yeah jim that oak is suppose to be dated back to the 1700s but its got ton of cables and lighting protection in it.Kevins really into that wood working i think he exibits that stuff.Matter of fact Dan kraus told me hes into that kinda wood working also.

I decided to stick to judging this year. I'll be in the throwline area. Think I've been rotated out of the Master's.

Still haven't given up onthe idea of a comeback someday, but I'm in no condition to compete right now.

Also, don't forget the Mayor's Challenge. Should be a great attention-getter.

cool keith look foward to seeing all the austin folks.I talked to Abram he was pulling off some impresive numbers footlocking at the park.Rich h is suppose to come down and maybe removal wizard.Suppose to be really big trees like a mile from leoncios house but hes still in recovery from the auto accident, hope he gets back to 100 percent.Cool im excited just to see everyone and all that comes with the event.

When I was visiting Jim a few weeks ago we climbed one of the big oaks in the park. There are plenty of trees that will make great climbs. I was amazed at how tall and large-crowned they are. Texas is not known for large volume trees but this park has some great ones.

I think that is a common misconception about texas trees.Sure we dont the giants but we do have alot of decent size trees paticularly Bur Oaks, pecans and live Oaks. Now that I think of it there is some large Red oaks and cottonwoods in certain areas.
