Stump Cut Troubles

Could be a combination of the bar burs and an unevenly sharpened chain. A regular filing on the bar with a flat file keeps mine cutting straight. Also, I noticed that a higher carbon steel bar by Sugihara does not need as much maintenance as the Stihl bars I’m used to. Nor does a higher carbon steel bar bend as easily.

Avoid the cork screw cut.

A wedge or a twig in the kerf and then once past center pull it out and place one near the tip and one near the power head. As the kerf closes where the cut started this will cantilever the rest upwards keeping weight off the bar.

Ooh, I like that! Gotta try it next time I'm working a larger stump.
